Position Summary 


The Community Education Navigator works closely with the Community Education Supervisor to recruit, enroll and support students in Canal Alliance's Adult Education programs, including ESL and Citizenship classes. This position focuses on enrollment coordination, client navigation, logistics, and administrative support, ensuring that courses run smoothly and students receive the guidance and resources they need to achieve their goals. The role is vital for maintaining strong client engagement and collaboration with internal and external partners, including the College of Marin and Marin County Free Library. The position offers opportunities to grow skills in adult education program coordination, data systems, and community partnership work, with career advancement possibilities within Canal Alliance. This is a full-time, non-exempt position requiring on-site work with occasional hybrid opportunities. Candidates must live in the State of California. 


Essential Functions


Program Coordination and Administrative Support 

  • Assist the Community Education Supervisor in coordinating educational programs, including ESL classes, Citizenship classes, and other initiatives. 
  • Maintain up-to-date schedules for classes, workshops, and student services in collaboration with COM and other partners.
  • Provide logistical support for events, meetings, and classes, including setting up facilities and materials. 
  •  Be present on-site to assist with application workshops, first day of classes, and other events that take place in the evening or on Saturdays.  

Student Navigation and Support 

  • Provide navigation services to clients, including intake, enrollment, onboarding, progress monitoring, and facilitating access to other Canal Alliance services such as workforce development and social services. 
  • Use a client-centered approach to help students stay engaged in their educational journey by tracking attendance, addressing barriers to participation, and offering guidance. 
  • Manage student records and update information in the Salesforce CRM system. 

Outreach and Engagement 

  • Conduct outreach to recruit students for educational programs, especially focusing on Canal Alliance’s ESL and other educational offerings. 
  • Participate in community events to raise awareness about Canal Alliance services and opportunities.  

Data and Systems Management 

  • Track and report student outcomes by collecting and inputting data into the Salesforce system. 
  • Collaborate with the IT team to improve data quality and systems usability. 
  • Assist in preparing reports for internal use and for grant-related purposes. 

Other Community Education Duties as Assigned 

  • Support the Community Education Supervisor with additional administrative and programmatic tasks as needed. 
  • Escalate complex student issues, partner challenges, or attendance concerns to the Community Education Supervisor. 

Requirements


  • 2+ years of experience in client-facing roles, preferably in education, case management, or community services. 
  • Associate or bachelor's degree or equivalent related experience in education, social services, or a similar field. 
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English (REQUIRED).  
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Suite, and Salesforce or other CRM systems (preferred). 
  • Culturally responsive and able to interact with clients of varied backgrounds in a supportive and respectful way. 
  • Ability to establish positive relationships with clients, staff, and community partners. 
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while managing multiple tasks effectively.  


Compensation and Benefits  

This is a full-time (32 hours a week) , non-exempt position with benefits. We offer a competitive hourly pay of  $33 to $35 (DOE) with a benefits package that includes:

Location and Hours 

This position is fully on-site at our office in San Rafael, with occasional hybrid opportunities, and attendance at quarterly in-person staff retreats. Canal Alliance observes a 4-day work week; work days are Monday through Thursday, and the office is closed on Fridays. Work hours for this position include a later schedule two days per week (11:30 am to 7:30 pm) as well as later evening and weekend hours a few times per year for class visits and registration workshops.
