About the Role

This position supports the Transportation Security Laboratory (TSL), which is a part of the Department of Homeland Security. The main responsibilities of the position are providing coordination, reporting, and documentation support to TSL leadership and program staff; assisting with TSL accomplishments and engagement reporting; supporting media and outreach activities. 


Skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft clear, concise articles, summaries, and correspondence
  • Good professional, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with the ability to work effectively with leadership, program staff, and external partners
  • Excellent attention to detail, particularly in maintaining databases, tracking logs, and reference/bibliographic records
  • Experience in media and graphic design, poster graphic design and execution, photography and videography (capture and edits)
  • A well-organized and self-directed individual with good time management skills and the ability to meet recurring reporting deadlines
  • Ability to multi-task and work effectively with moderate supervision in a fast-paced, mission-focused environment
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook) and familiarity with collaboration tools such as SharePoint
  • Experience or aptitude in coordinating events, meetings, and visits, including logistics, documentation, and follow-up actions

Requirements

  

  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Eligible for a Secret security clearance, and able to pass Homeland Security’s stringent financial responsibility standards. [Pre-existing clearance and DHS suitability a major plus!]
  • Education: A High School Diploma or General Education Degree or equivalent experience is required. An associate’s or bachelor’s degree in communications, public affairs, English, or a related field—or equivalent experience—is preferred.
