MEAT DEPARTMENT MANAGER
The Meat Department Manager plays a key role in ensuring the department operates efficiently while providing fresh, high-quality products to customers. As Manager, you will oversee daily operations, ensure product quality, and provide excellent customer service. In this role, you will be responsible for managing inventory, merchandising fresh meat products, enforcing food safety standards, and leading and managing a team of meat department employees. You will work to maximize sales, reduce waste, and create an efficient, well-stocked department that meets customer expectations. Success in this role requires meat cutting experience, strong leadership skills, and a commitment to high-quality service.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee all aspects of the meat department operations, including cutting, trimming, and preparing meats for sale
- Ensure product quality
- Manage inventory levels, conduct ordering, and minimize waste to maintain profitability
- Ensure food safety compliance and sanitation standards
- Lead, supervise and train staff
- Provide outstanding customer service
- Maintain high standards for product presentation, ensuring displays are fresh, attractive, and well-stocked to maximize sales
- Monitor sales, analyze trends, and implement strategies to drive department profitability
- Address customer inquiries, provide recommendations, and ensure a positive shopping experience
- Ensure proper storage and rotation of products to maintain quality and minimize shrinkage
- Collaborate with store leadership on pricing, promotions, and marketing initiatives
- Maintain equipment
- Collaborate with Store Management
- Perform all other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS

- Previous experience in a meat department, butcher shop or similar environment
- Previous experience in management
- Extensive knowledge of meat cutting techniques, product handling and food safety regulations
- Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Ability to manage department operations
- Experience with ordering, vendor regulations, and waste control
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to handle customer requests and concerns professionally
- Proficiency in basic computer applications and software
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Work is typically performed in a grocery store environment with frequent exposure to refrigerated areas and freezers
- Exposure to sharp equipment requiring high attention to safety
- Fast-paced environment especially during peak shopping hours
- Must be available to work a flexible schedule including a variety of shifts, days, evenings, nights, and weekends including overtime, as needed
