About the Role

Healthy Kids Programs is seeking Summer Camp Directors to guide campers through a summer filled with fun, friendship, and unforgettable adventures. This is your chance to lead, inspire, and create lifelong memories for children while being part of a supportive, award-winning team. 


Schedule: 

  • Pre-summer: Up to 3 hours per week, increasing to up to 6 hours per week beginning in May 
  • Summer: Monday–Friday, shifts between 7:30 AM and 5:00 PM 
  • Potential to continue beyond summer with different hours 

Dates: May 25 – June 26, 2026
Status: Part-time, non-exempt
Pay: $18.00 – $20.00 per hour, based on experience 


Key Responsibilities 

  • Plan and lead daily camp activities, games, hands-on projects, and special events, including arts & crafts and themed activities 
  • Create a positive, inclusive environment where campers feel supported, encouraged, and engaged 
  • Supervise, train, and support camp staff, including implementing the curriculum to ensure high-quality program delivery 
  • Ensure camper safety and follow all state guidelines, Healthy Kids policies, and host school policies 
  • Communicate daily with families using the Playground App and provide support during parent orientations 
  • Support community outreach to promote the program and engage prospective families 
  • Lead by example with enthusiasm, positivity, and a can-do attitude 

Requirements

Qualifications 

  • Must be at least 21 years of age 
  • Must meet one Virginia-approved education and experience pathway: 
  • Graduate degree in a child-related field with 6+ months programmatic experience 
  • Bachelor’s degree or endorsement in a child-related field with 1+ year programmatic experience 
  • 48 semester hours (or 72 quarter hours) including 12 semester hours (or 18 quarter hours) in child-related subjects plus 1 year programmatic experience 
  • 2 years programmatic experience including 1 year in a supervisory role plus an early childhood certificate, CDA credential, or recognized Montessori certification 
  • At least 6 months of experience supervising, orienting, training, and scheduling staff, or completion of approved management training or coursework 
  • Pediatric CPR and First Aid certification preferred 
  • Must successfully complete all applicable background screenings in accordance with Virginia state regulations
