The Liberty County Board of Commissioners is accepting applications for seasonal Sports Officials within the Recreation Department. Specifically, we are looking for Baseball, Soccer, Softball, and Volleyball Officials.
JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for enforcing rules of the game during LCRD sporting events.
MAJOR DUTIES
- Presides over competitive sporting events to help maintain standards of play.
- Officiates assigned games with fairness and respect to all players and spectators.
- Ensures guidelines, rules, and sportsmanship are enforced.
- Detects infractions and decides penalties according to the rules of the game.
- Reports field/court problems to onsite Athletic Staff.
- Assists with injured, ejected, or unruly participants.
- Communicates game details with scorekeepers for accurate documentation.
- Performs other duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
- Knowledge of specific GHSA and Recreation Department league rules.
- Knowledge of rules and methods of play for the event or game to which assigned.
- Ability to exercise fair and impartial judgment and render decisions quickly.
- Ability to maintain order and secure respect of game participants.
- Skill in keeping records and making reports.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
- This position requires the ability to stand or walk for an extended period with occasional periods of running.
- This position requires the ability to frequently lift light objects and occasionally lift heavy objects.
- This position is typically performed in an indoor gymnasium or outdoors, sometimes in inclement weather.
Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- More than six (6) months of experience in the supervision of a sporting activity or sport.
WORK SCHEDULE, SALARY, AND BENEFITS
This is a seasonal position at $35.11 hourly (17Q). Work schedule will vary to include evenings and weekends. There are no benefits.
