About The Company
Parker Ranch is the second largest private landowner in Hawaii, founded in 1847. The company has three main operating divisions: Land, Livestock, and Forestry/Hardwoods. The Land Division is responsible for two main business functions, (1) land strategy and planning and (2) real estate development and marketing. The Livestock Division is responsible for managing the 5th largest ranching operation in the United States. The Forestry/Hardwoods Division is responsible for long-term forestry management and wood processing and marketing. The mission of Parker Ranch is to support the needs of the four beneficiaries of the Parker Ranch Foundation Trust by cultivating value from the land bequeathed to the trust by the last Parker family member to own and control the ranch - Richard Smart. As the communities in our region of Hawaii grow, the value derived from that growth through land development, and other forms of land use, increases the value of the ranch assets and therefore increases our ability to support the efforts of our beneficiaries to build capacity to support the needs of those same communities. The values of Parker Ranch are rooted in our diverse community, represented by many different ethnic groups who migrated to Hawaii, but most especially the culture of our indigenous native Hawaiian people. If we take care of the land, the land will take care of us. We prioritize land stewardship practices in our approach to managing these lands. Maintaining biodiversity, protecting watersheds, and cultivating forests to ensure the health of our ecosystems are important elements of our land management strategy. Parker Ranch Inc. is owned by Parker Ranch Foundation Trust whose beneficiaries are four non-profits: Queen’s North Hawai`i Community Hospital, Hawai`i Preparatory Academy, Parker School and Hawai`i Community Foundation.
