Join a growing team that includes over 70 organizers doing bold worksite based organizing and bargaining throughout Puget Sound, the Pacific Northwest, and Montana by engaging in:

  • Leadership Development: identify and foster existing and new union leaders & activists’ growth and leadership.
  • Racial Justice: engage workers in our fight to promote racial justice and combat white supremacy.
  • Engage majority participation in contract negotiations though fun and inclusive strategies.
  • Plan: actions to win improvements in the workplace that promote workplace democracy & justice.
  • Mobilize: members to participate in community, political and organizing opportunities in the larger union and community.
  • Listen: utilize your excellent active listening skills to determine workplace concerns by asking open ended questions and listening more than talking.
  • Welcome & Educate: new members on what a union is and share opportunities for member involvement.
  • Build relationships: Regular meet and work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.

Position is covered by a Staff Union with a collective bargaining agreement that includes:

Competitive salary ranging from $79,000 - $$105,000 dependent on experience, and additional $6,500/year car allowance, a strong benefit package including 14% employer contribution to 401K/Pension, fully paid family healthcare, 14 paid holidays a year and generous time off accrual.

Copy of driver’s license, vehicle registration or title, and proof of current personal auto insurance policy required for hire.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF AN ORGANIZER

Under the supervision of a Director and oversight of a lead the organizer will need to perform the following essential functions.

  • Ability to be physically at assigned turf daily during various shifts to engage with members regarding union and workplace issues.
  • Professionally engage with multiple unfamiliar people in person and in writing. Build a relationship with members and provide them with the tools and training to solve worksite problems and issues within their union.
  • Manage multiple employer relationships, meetings, and bargaining in professional, organized, and timely manner.
  • Hear concerns of members, answer their questions, and redirect them toward action or appropriate avenues to solve issues within their workplace.
  • Deliver approved messages and information about union programs and labor movement in timely and professional manner via phone, email, and in-person.
  • Regular and punctual attendance at staff, member, and employer meetings and functions.
  • Available and willing to support, train, and mentor union members and leaders outside of regular business hours to allow members who cannot engage in some conversations or activities while on working and/or scheduled on shifts outside of the regular business day.
  • Engage professionally with staff and members via phone, email, and in-person.
  • Ability to work long and irregular hours including on weekends and holidays as well as work away from home for extended periods.
  • Communicate with supervisor regularly to determine appropriate balance between extended and flexible hours. Report any variance of schedule to supervisor asap.
  • Participate in organizational work that requires door to door, phone, and some electronic communication with the general public.
  • Accurately record time to reflect assigned work and work product each week as specified.
