Description
To ensure we continue to implement and advance our company’s environmental, health and safety (EHS) program by assisting the team in building our EHS culture, including maintaining, confirming and improving policies to maintain a safe workplace and protect the environment. As our EH&S manager you must have an excellent attention to detail and ability to identify risks and hazards, and the ability to effectively and proactively communicate established guidelines within the workforce.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, improve, enforce and assess environmental, health and safety policies and procedures.
- Implement, improve, advance and communicate a health and safety culture.
- Evaluate practices, procedures, facilities and employees (and contractors) to identify and assess risk and compliance with laws and best practices.
- Conduct training and presentations for environmental, health and safety matters, including with a focus on accident prevention.
- Monitor compliance with policies, procedures and laws, including by routinely attending, inspecting and assessing employees, contractors and operations, with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Conduct, and ensure supervisors are conducting, pre-shift safety talks.
- Inspect equipment and machinery to observe and address possible unsafe conditions, in a proactive/preventative manner.
- Investigate accidents, near misses or other incidents to identify causes, issues and areas for improvement.
- Assist HR with the management of worker’s compensation claims.
- Recommend, discuss and implement, as part of a team, solutions to issues, challenges, improvement opportunities and new prevention measures.
- Report on environmental, health and safety awareness, issues and actions needed/planned and completed, with a focus on steps taken to prevent any serious injuries or fatalities.
- Manage the sites’ environmental compliance, including regarding permitting, waste water and storm water discharges, air emissions, hazardous waste and annual reporting.
Requirements
- Self motivation with a "take charge", proactive attitude
- Ability and willingness to spend time on the shop floor, engaging with employees and "getting your hands dirty"
- Understanding of environmental, health and safety laws, best practices and procedures
- Ability to effectively communicate, including to produce reports and maintain/develop policies and procedures
- Excellent organizational and motivational skills
- Outstanding attention to detail and observation skills
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience with managing contractors, consultants and other third-party providers
- Valid qualification in occupational health and safety
- Commute from Ardmore, OK to Gainesville, TX on a regular basis
- Ability to work with Excel, Word & PowerPoint
