The Staff Nurse PACU will admit patients, assess and monitor them according to policy, understand anesthesia principles, and recognize changes in patient condition, notifying appropriate personnel. Responsibilities also include providing comfort, assisting with nerve blocks, carrying out physician orders, reviewing discharge instructions, and ensuring necessary equipment and medications are available.

Your Impactful Role
- Admits patient to PACU. Assesses and monitors patient per policy and procedure.
- Understands the principles of anesthesia reactions and airway management.
- Recognizes changes in the patient’s condition, related to a cause, and notifies anesthesiologist and/or surgeon.
- Maintains and uses proper techniques in caring for oxygen therapy, suction, drainage tubes and IV’s.
- Provides physiological comfort and psychological support based on individual patient needs.
- Assists anesthesiologist with nerve block, as necessary.
- Carries out physician’s orders, standing, written and verbal.
- Upon discharge of patients: Reviews written care instructions with patient and/or representative.
- Ensures medications and DME are available as ordered, condition is satisfactory, and confirms patient’s designated driver.
- Reviews medical record for completeness. Understands and performs proper technique of equipment in assigned work area.
- Appropriately handles the disposal of biohazardous materials.
- Adheres to POSC procedures, policies, and standards.
- Maintains area of Special Assignments.
- Responsible for training new employees.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Graduate of accredited School of Nursing.
- Critical Care experience preferred.
- Previous PACU experience preferred.
- ACLS and BLS certification required. If not ACLS certified when hired, will obtain within three months of hire. This position requires involvement in preparation of State and AAAHC Surveys.
- Active Georgia Nursing License
- American Heart Association's Certification - BLS Certified
Physical Demands

These duties can be stressful, as can dealing with injured people. There is potential exposure to anesthetic gases, hazardous chemicals, blood and body fluids, sharps, and cleaning solutions. The employee frequently is required to move all extremities within full range of motion as well as stoop and bend at 90 degrees. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. This is a full-time position. Workdays are Monday through Friday. This position may require long hours.
