About the Role

Overview

Humboldt Sawmill Company, LLC (HSC) is looking for an experienced Supervisor to supervise and coordinate the activities involved in repairing and maintaining equipment and/or rolling stock in a safe a productive manner for our  Scotia, CA Sawmill !

 

This is an exempt position offering an annual salary of $85,000 - $105,000.  Your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic locations, skills, education, and/or experience.  Please keep in mind the range published is the full base salary. The Mendocino Companies (Mendocino Forest Products Company, Mendocino Redwood Company, Humboldt Redwood Company, Humboldt Sawmill Company, and Allweather Wood) own nearly 450,000 acres of Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC® C031337) certificated redwood and Douglas-fir timberland, constitute the largest waterborne wood treater in the Western USA, and is the largest producer of redwood lumber in the world. Responsibilities

The Garage Supervisor is responsible for supervising and coordinating the repair and maintenance of equipment and/or rolling stock in a safe, efficient, and productive manner. This role works collaboratively to support the mill and forestry departments and to promote continuous improvement in safe operations.

  • Supervise garage personnel in accordance with Company policies, safety standards, and applicable employment laws. Provide coaching and performance feedback consistent with Company guidelines and the performance management process.
  • Coordinate and oversee maintenance and repair activities for equipment and/or rolling stock to support operational needs.
  • Ensure preventative maintenance programs are implemented for equipment and vehicles used in mill operations and forestry departments.
  • Develop project proposals including scope of work, timelines, and financial justification.
  • Review maintenance and performance data to identify trends and recommend improvements to equipment reliability, efficiency, cost control, quality, plant capacity, and production performance.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and periodic review of maintenance procedures, work instructions, and related policies.
  • Recommend and support process and equipment improvements to enhance safety, efficiency, effectiveness, and quality while managing costs.
  • Collaborate with counterparts at other sites to maintain consistent communication regarding maintenance programs, equipment performance, and shared best practices.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records for HRC vehicles and ensure documentation is current and complete.
  • Promote and reinforce safe work practices and ensure safety requirements are followed during all maintenance and repair activities.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • Five to seven (5–7) years of related maintenance/garage experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, including leadership or supervisory experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; working knowledge of Microsoft Project and database software (e.g., Access) preferred
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and meet Company requirements for operating Company vehicles, as applicable to the role
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural documentation
  • Ability to prepare routine reports and communicate effectively in person, by phone, and in writing
  • Ability to follow written, verbal, and visual instructions.

 Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • The employee is frequently required to walk, sit and communicate.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
  • The employee will split his/her time between a typical manufacturing office environment and the manufacturing floor.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate while the noise level in the sawmill dictates the necessity for hearing protection when working on the manufacturing floor.
  • This position requires the following equipment when in the plant: eye protection, hearing protection, leather/rubber gloves, safety shoes, hard hat and fall protection as required.
