Description
The Addiction Medicine Clinic is a specialty medical clinic focused on the treatment of substance use disorders and related medical conditions. We provide comprehensive, low-barrier, evidence-based medical care including medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD), long-acting injectable therapies, hepatitis C treatment, obesity medicine, and coordinated behavioral health support.
We are seeking either a Certified Medical Assistant or a motivated Pre-Certified Medical Assistant eligible for on-the-job training (OJT) to join our collaborative medical team.
AMC blends medical excellence with harm-reduction principles and structured clinical practice. We are building a sustainable, high-functioning medical program — and we are looking for team members who want to grow with us.
JOB SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Medical Director, the Medical Assistant works cooperatively as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team and is responsible for assisting nursing/medical staff in the treatment and management of clients on-site in the assigned program(s).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assists with client medications:
- Allergy/medication reconciliation
- Coordinates refill requests, manage REMS pharmacy medications
- Processes new medication orders
- Submits prior authorizations
- Provides education as directed by LMP
- Performs patient/client care responsibilities considering needs that are specific to the standard of care for the age of the patient/client;
- Updates electronic Health Record with medication and/or treatment changes and/or any additional communication as appropriate;
- Coordinates treatment plan:
- Facilitates ordered lab work to include obtaining UAs/oral swabs for drug screening
- Obtains and organizes outside records and results
- Coordinates communication with primary care clinics and behavioral health clinics, including providing written communication following appointments;
- Takes and records vital signs including height, weight, BMI, and waist circumference when necessary; Alerts LMP of abnormal VS and/trends;
- Assists with ride/transportation coordination and coordination for medical visits;
- Gathers health information including screenings, health history, and standing orders;
- Maintains medical supplies, REMS medications and equipment;
- Reviews emails and responds or refers as appropriate;
- Fully understands and strictly complies with HIPAA regulations, 42 CFR, and OSHA guidelines, and maintains compliance with OARs for Behavioral Health and AMC clinics;
- Assists with procedures, treatments, and rooming for the clinic as needed;
- Transcribes provider orders into Electronic Health Record as needed;
- Communicates with families and treatment teams regarding medication or treatment changes as appropriate;
- Provides other competencies as directed by supervisors within the scope of training;
- Maintains a collaborative working relationship with staff;
- Is flexible with duties and requirements of job as they evolve;
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES: Must have demonstrated competency or ability to obtain competency within a reasonable period for each of the following:

- Is emotionally and physically stable to work with the clientele, model self-care skills, and assist the patient/client in meeting their goals;
- Proven success in collaborating with co-workers and a multi-disciplinary team to provide and advocate for excellent patient care
- Proficiency in MS Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook), EHR databases, virtual meeting platforms, internet, and ability to learn new or updated software;

- Strong communication skills (oral and written);
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, accuracy, and follow-through;
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines;
- Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills that can impact safety of self and others;
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of privileged information in compliance with HIPAA, 42 CFR, the Employee Handbook and all privacy and security regulations;

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma (or equivalent)
- Must have previous experience as a Medical Assistant or Emergency Medical Technician, taking and recording vital signs, etc.
- Experience working with mental illness and/or substance abuse disorders
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
- Current CMA, CCMA, or EMT certification, or new LPN graduate
- Current BLS or CPR/First Aid/AED certification
- Must maintain a valid Oregon Driver License or ability to obtain one upon hire, and be insurable under the organization’s auto liability coverage policy (minimum 21 years of age and with no Type A violations in the past 3 years, or three (3) or more Type B violations)
- For individuals in recovery from substance-use disorder, must have maintained continuous recovery for the previous two (2) years at the time of hire
PREFERRED:
- Bilingual in English/Spanish a plus
- Some experience in a healthcare setting a plus
