JOB SUMMARY:
The Director of Fine Arts is the administrative position of the Fine Arts Department, including the Dance, Music, Theatre, and Visual Art Programs. The Fine Arts Director oversees all department meetings and ensures that department and school policies are being followed by faculty, staff, and student participants. The Fine Arts Director is in charge of planning and coordinating all Fine Arts Events ranging from fundraisers, rehearsals, productions, concerts, trips, and is responsible for overseeing the 8th grade scholarship application and audition process. The Fine Arts Director works collaboratively with the administration, faculty, and support staff and communicates effectively with parents and members of the community regarding all program initiatives.
Salary commensurate with experience.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Establish and promote high standards and expectations for students and staff for academic and artistic performance and responsibility for behavior.
- Communicate with the administration and staff regularly about the needs, successes, and general operation of the Fine arts Department.
- Manage the fine arts budget and coordinate purchase of instructional materials and equipment within Fine Arts Programs.
- Conduct meetings as necessary for the proper functioning of the Fine Arts programs.
- Keep the staff informed about events and policies.
- Oversees all academic and curricular matters.
- Coordinate and oversee the F.A.D.E. (Fine Arts Diploma Endorsement) program, including planning and managing the Guest Artist Series and Senior Showcase.
- Monitor Fine Arts areas to ensure that the facilities support instruction and are attractive, organized, functional, healthy, clean and safe, with proper attention to the visual, acoustic and thermal environments.
- Recommend staffing needs and assist the recruitment and selection of new personnel.
- Supervise assigned personnel to ensure that all responsibilities are met and exceeded.
- Communicate with the Parent/Guardian Community about fundraising, production/event promotion, and recruitment.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversees the scheduling and activities of the Fine Arts department
- Provides constructive feedback and coaching

- Basic knowledge and exposure of all major art forms.
- Ability to demonstrate instructional leadership skills.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills to effectively support staff, administration, and students.

- Knowledge of data collection and management programs such as Microsoft word, excel, powerpoint, google documents, etc.
- General Knowledge of internet and web page use/creation.
- Demonstrate enthusiasm and the interpersonal skills to relate well with students, faculty and staff.
- Prior experience with fundraising is required.
- Prior experience with the organizational needs of a staged production/concert.
- Prior experience with event planning and logistics is required.
- Must have a comfortable stage presence.
- Use effective presentation skills when addressing students, staff, parents, and the community, including appropriate vocabulary and examples, clear and legible visuals, and articulate and audible speech.
- Use excellent written and oral skills when communicating with students, parents and colleagues.
- Demonstrate initiative, effective organizational skills and the ability to motivate people.
- Continue to grow professionally through collaboration with colleagues and professional growth experiences.
- Serve as a role model for students, dressing professionally, and demonstrating the importance and relevance of learning, accepting responsibility and pride in the education profession
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Management experience is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts or related field
- Ability to oversee a department and motivate and manage people while also acting as a professional mentor to build on the skill and strengths of direct reports.

LOCATION/TRAVEL: While Bishop McNamara High School is located in Forestville, MD, you may live anywhere in the surrounding region, but be willing to make any commute to the school.
