About the Role
  • Sets up, adjusts and operates laboratory equipment.
  • Performs physical and chemical tests, safely and according to established procedures.
  • Follows written or verbal procedures, and instructions. Checks results against established specifications to Company needs.
  • Participates in the Company Lab QA/QC program to determine consistency and accuracy of lab test procedures and techniques.
  • Refers to tables and uses formulas to compute physical and chemical properties.
  • Records and checks all data, calculations and results for accuracy in standard lab format.
  • Reports irregularities in any analysis or result to appropriate personnel.
  • Handles samples and chemicals safely and according to the Company Lab Procedure.
  • Cleans lab equipment and work areas to assure the accurate, safe and efficient functioning of the laboratory.
  • Participates in Company Lab training program.
  • The work schedule for this position is twelve (12) hour rotating night shifts which will include working holidays, weekends, days, nights, overtime, and being on call as necessary.

This position is hourly nonexempt status, which means you are eligible for overtime pay.

The hourly ratee for this position is $37.42 and represents Valero’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of expected compensation at the time of this posting.  Actual compensation will be determined based on a number of job-related factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s qualifications and experience.



  • Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero Wilmington Refinery, required.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum two years of college-level Chemistry and algebra-based Mathematics courses preferred.
  • Minimum three years of petroleum laboratory experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of ASTM and UOP and Standard Methods for Examination of Petroleum and Asphalt Products preferred.
