About the Role

Description

At Hi-Way Paving, we are general contractors in the construction field that specialize in significant amounts of concrete paving, storm drainage, and excavation on highways and airfields.


We are looking for Prep Crew Laborers to support our slip-form concrete paving operations. In this role, you’ll be responsible for preparing work areas, building and setting up forms, tying rebar, and positioning stabilizing steel bars to ensure smooth and efficient paving operations.


This position requires extensive travel—up to 100%—to job sites across the region, including Columbia, SC; Charlotte, NC; Nashville, TN; and other future project locations.


What You'll Do:

  • Tie rebar and position stabilizing steel bars.
  • Shovel and rake dirt, gravel, and concrete. Read and follow construction plans, instructions, and specifications.
  • Load, unload, and transport materials, tools, and equipment to designated areas.
  • Use hand and power tools to complete tasks efficiently.
  • Assist in directing vehicle traffic and signaling equipment operators when needed.
  • Operate machinery such as backhoes, skid steer loaders, and other equipment (if qualified).
  • Communicate effectively with team members and site management.
  • Follow all safety protocols and worksite best practices.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.


What We Look For:

  • Prior construction-site labor experience required.
  • Heavy or highway construction experience preferred.
  • Ability to gain clearance for restricted/high-security zones (e.g., airport AOA, military bases).
  • Willingness to travel 100% of the time.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Physical ability to lift 75 lbs, climb, walk, kneel, squat, push, pull, and enter confined spaces.
  • If applicable, indicate union affiliation on your application.
  • Must be at least 18 years old to meet job-site safety and labor requirements
