Purpose of Your Position

Administer and interpret psychological tests and other assessments to evaluate student’s level of abilities for appropriate school placement. Provide psychological counseling for assigned caseload in compliance with IEP / IFSP mandates, with emphasis on non-verbal counseling and techniques. Obtain, integrate, and interpret information about behavior and identifying conditions related to learning for special needs students; provide positive behavioral interventions and supports. Act as a bereavement counselor and provide consultation to administration, staff and families. Serve on committees such as Ethics, Palliative Care, etc.

  • Promote the Mission, Vision and Core Values of Elizabeth Seton Children’s and incorporates values into daily practice.
  • Conduct psychological evaluations in accordance with Bureau of Early Intervention and New York State Education Department regulations. Use current and developmentally appropriate measures and interpret results. Recommend appropriate school placement.
  • Provide psychological counseling as mandated on Individualized Education Plans (IEP) and Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSP) with emphasis on non-verbal counseling and techniques, and document all sessions according to NYS Education Department, Medicaid in Education, and Bureau of Early Intervention regulations.
  • Write accurate and timely evaluations, quarterly progress reports, session notes and draft IEP documents in accordance with all regulations.
  • Provide behavior management interventions including consultation, observation and functional behavioral assessments. Develop and implement behavior intervention plans.
  • Collaborate with school leadership to coordinate IEP meetings and participate in IEP and IFSP conferences.
  • Assist staff in developing and implementing school routines for children and act as liaison with Elizabeth Seton Children’s Center to ensure continuity of care.
  • Provide staff education on non-verbal counseling techniques.
  • Provide clinical supervision and mentoring to psychology interns and present at conferences.
  • Act as bereavement counselor for children, families and staff as needed.
  • Collaborate with school leadership to create and implement individual and school-wide Professional Development Plans that inspires personal growth, informs teaching practices and promotes understanding of the NYS Teaching Standards.
  • Carry out standards for customer service; quality improvement; professional development; environmental, safety and infection control practices; confidentiality, corporate compliance and all other school policies and procedures; attend all mandatory in-services to ensure regulatory compliance and best practices in working with students and their families.
  • Perform all tasks as deemed necessary by School Administration.

 

Qualifications

Education Requirements:

  • PhD or PsyD in Psychology
  • New York State Certification in School Psychology preferred
  • New York State License in Psychology Required

Experience

  • Two years experience with special needs and/or medically fragile children.

Employee Requirements:

  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written); good problem-solving skills; strong organizational skills; ability to relate to families and work collaboratively with other agency representatives.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language fluently.
  • Must meet or exceed all health standards and requirements for the position as established by NYDOH and all other regulatory agencies.
  • Must meet the general health requirements set fourth by the policies of this School, which includes a medical and physical examination.
  • Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of thirty-five (35) pounds.
  • Perform tasks that may involve exposure to the children’s blood/body fluids.
  • Must be able to assist in the evacuation of children.

Working Conditions:

  • Will work in a well-lighted and ventilated area.
  • Will be subject to frequent interruptions.
  • May be asked to work beyond normal working hours, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.

 

Salary Range:

$80,000/Yr. To $90,000/Yr.
