Shift Type: PRN; hours and days vary; 8 to 16 hours per week


The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for sterilization and maintenance of instrumentation and equipment in an efficient, safe and sanitary manner. Follows established policy and procedures in compliance with regulatory requirements. Maintains quality controls.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Maintains supplies and equipment as needed for SPD in accordance with established policies and procedures and all manufacturer guidelines.
  2. Organize storage of supplies for efficient handling. Maintain catalog of procedure trays.
  3. Maintain instrument room areas in a safe, orderly and sanitary condition.
  4. Appropriately label all supplies and equipment for sterilization.
  5. Maintain instruments and equipment to assure proper function and integrity.
  6. Perform and log all necessary testing in the SPD department in accordance with all established policies and procedures.
  7. Assist with preparing instruments for the OR and prioritizes instrumentation for turnover.
  8. Works with OR staff ensure all loaner trays and equipment are in the facility and processed in a timely manner.
  9. Creates and maintains a safe and comfortable environment in the SPD department 
  10. Maintains current knowledge if AMII regulations as it relates to the sterilization and supplies.
  11. Other duties as assigned

Requirements

High School graduate or equivalent. Previous instrument technician experience preferred.

  1. Ability to function effectively in stressful situations.
  2. Ability to communicate in verbal and written methods.
  3. Ability and willingness to adjust schedule (trade or work extra) to meet the needs of facility.
  4. Ability to work under supervision.
