The Driver/Monitor is responsible for the safe and efficient daily transportation and monitoring of developmentally disabled or physically disabled individuals between their residence and the Day Program site, adhering strictly to all relevant laws and regulations. This role requires ensuring the human dignity and rights of the individuals while maintaining vehicle cleanliness and conducting pre-use inspections.

About the Role

Description

The Driver/Monitor reports to the Transportation Coordinator. Drivers/Monitors are directly responsible for the daily transportation and monitoring of developmentally disabled / physically disabled individuals from point of residence to Day Program site in a safe, efficient manner. In this capacity, all DDS general laws and regulations will be adhered to. This position will be compensated on an hourly basis.


Schedule: Monday - Friday Split Shift

**Weekends and Holidays off!

Salary: $18.00/hour


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Must be able to drive and operate all Venture vehicles.
  • Ensure and safe guard Venture individuals' human dignity, rights and liberties.
  • Adhere to all applicable DDS, Venture and MART regulations, policies and procedures, as well as state and local laws in the operation of the vehicle.
  • Ability to assist individuals who require assistance in entering and leaving the vehicle.
  • Attendance at all training sessions, staff meetings, and supervision as scheduled.
  • Ensure all safety precautions regarding the operation of motor vehicles and transportation of individuals, ensure all individuals will be seated while vehicle is in motion, and assist individuals in securing seat belts, if needed.
  • Safely transport individuals to and from home and day site.
  • Work cooperatively with all drivers, monitors, individuals, programs and families.
  • Maintain internal and external cleanliness of vehicle.
  • Conduct a vehicle inspection before use, utilizing the Venture check list and report all needed repairs and maintenance immediately to the Transportation Coordinator.
  • Routine fueling of vehicle.
  • Ensure the individuals are given every opportunity to obtain transportation by following the agency procedures and training.
  • All individual related communication regarding individuals will be followed up by submission of an Incident Report within 24 hours re: individual communications.
  • Arrive at individuals’ residence within 5 minutes before or after scheduled time frames.
  • Offer physical assistance when necessary, offer assistance with possessions when necessary within 5 feet of the van.
  • Notify Transportation Director immediately if any problems exist that impedes safe, efficient transportation.
  • MARGINAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Other job related duties, as requested.
  • Must wear Venture supplied uniform while on shift (including shirt and badge)
  • Maintain confidentiality and positive demeanor while successfully juggling multiple priorities simultaneously.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Maintain First Aid, CPR, AED & Safety Care certifications
  • Ability to read, write and comprehend English language.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with peers and Direct Support Professional’s.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds up to 150 pounds (assistance with non-ambulatory individuals).
  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach and lift - physical flexibility.
  • Ability to handle job related documentation.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.
  • Maintain consistent and clear communication with Transportation Director and RRI staff.

Requirements

  • High School Degree or G.E.D.
  • Must be 21+ years old, daily use of a vehicle on site and be available by telephone for daily contact.
  • Must have valid Class D License with a minimum of three years driving experience.
  • Must obtain a 1 or 2 year DOT physical certification prior to the commencement of employment and maintain DOT certification.
  • Must pass acceptable annual CORI and 10 year driving record checks.
  • Must have current CPR Certification and First Aid Certification; or obtain certification prior to working with the individuals.
