Lifeguard

The Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety of members and guests at the Club pool, which includes supervising swimming activities and enforcing all relevant policies and safety guidelines. Essential duties also involve maintaining the cleanliness of the pool area, inspecting facilities, administering first aid or rescues when necessary, and assisting with water testing and chemical additions.

A community was formed when a group of men came together in 1921 to build a "Club in the Country." Barrington Hills is 40 miles outside of Chicago. It was founded by a group of "gentlemen farmers" with the intent for a place that promoted friendships, families, and a sense of tight-knit community—the current clubhouse designed by Robert Work, who was an associate of David Adler. The facilities include a George O'Neill designed 18 hole golf course, 8 Har-tru tennis courts, a swimming pool for the summer activities. For the fall and winter months, the Club has a new paddle lodge with four paddle tennis courts.

JOB TITLE: Lifeguard

Reports to: Director of Aquatics

Position Summary

Responsible for the safety of members and guests who visit the Club pool. Maintains cleanliness of the pool and surrounding deck area.

Essential Job Functions

Supervises swimming activities at the aquatics facility and ensures that policies, guidelines, and safety procedures are followed.
Warns swimmers of improper activities or danger and enforces pool regulations and water safety policies.
Administers first aid in the event of injury, rescues swimmers in distress or danger of drowning, and administers CPR and/or artificial respiration, if necessary.
Evaluates conditions for safety and initiates aquatics emergency action plan as required.
Inspects pool facilities, equipment, and water to ensure that they are safe and usable.
Supervises and assists in cleaning the pool and related facilities and equipment, assists with chlorine residual water tests and with records and charts of water tests and records of accidents, and adds chemicals to pool water as directed.
Instructs or assists classes in fundamentals of swimming as needed.

Requirements

Experience/Background/Knowledge

Prior experience preferred.

Lifeguard Qualifications / Skills:

• Must be or willing to become CPR/First Aid, Lifeguard Certified through the American Red Cross and maintain certification.

• Must be attentive and able to give directions.

• Must be able to stand for long periods of time and lift up to 50lbs
