The Food Bank was founded in Augusta, GA in 1982, and now operates from distribution centers in Augusta, GA and Aiken, S.C. Golden Harvest is a locally supported 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides grocery products to the hungry through a network of more than 300 partner agencies and programs. Summary

Our team of drivers serves as key ambassadors of Golden Harvest Food Bank. As a Class B Truck Driver, you play a vital role in safely and efficiently operating vehicles along established routes to collect and deliver products. This position is responsible for receiving, storing, and distributing goods while consistently demonstrating exceptional customer service to the public, our donors, and the neighbors we serve. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

• Reads schedules, work orders, shipping information or requisitions ensuring efficiency 

• Maintains truck log according to state and federal regulations & mileage logging 

• Consistently communicates with Logistic Supervisor and Inventory Supervisor 

• Inspects truck and maintains cleanliness of inside and outside of truck 

• Communicates all repair needs and/damage to Logistics Manager in a timely manner 

• Safely secure and transport donated food from donors to designated distribution sites, always using proper food handling techniques 

• Acts as a liaison between agencies, donors, and/or clients and Golden Harvest Food Bank 

• Ensures contents are properly secured inside vehicles to prevent damage 

• Maintains positive relationships with food donors and recipients 

• Fully understands how to operate and safely drive assigned vehicles 

• Obtain necessary signatures upon completion of pick-ups or deliveries 

• Maintain proper use and upkeep of vehicles and report issues to Logistics Supervisor 

• Maintains food safety standards, including temperature control 

• Assists with weighing product; loading and unloading at warehouses 

• Works cooperatively with others including staff, supervisors, co-workers, and agencies 

• Maintains workplace safety in all aspects of the job, particularly warehouse equipment and assigned vehicles 

• Consistently represents the Food Bank in a professional manner, exhibiting excellent customer service 

• Follows the daily pick-up and delivery schedule, communicating necessary changes 

• Assists in warehouse with all aspects of inventory, agency orders, cleaning, and organizing 

• Attends all meetings, workshops, and/or trainings as directed 

• Assists other drivers and/or warehouse staff as needed; may assist with food drives

• This position does not include formal supervisory responsibilities

• May provide guidance or direction to volunteers at distribution sites to support safe, efficient, and customer-focused operations

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and route information

• Proficiency with MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook email and calendaring

Education and/or Experience        

• High school diploma or GED required 

• Related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience 

• Forklift operation experience preferred (certification may be obtained through Golden Harvest Food Bank) 

• Valid Class B Driver’s License with a good driving record 

• Successful completion of ServSafe Food Safety certification (may be obtained during introductory period) 

• Ability to pass background checks, MVR checks, drug screening, and fit-for-duty testing

• Regularly lifts and moves items up to 50 pounds; occasionally lifts heavier items with assistance 

• Operates pallet jacks, hand trucks, forklifts, and other warehouse equipment 

• Climbs in and out of trucks and navigates loading docks and distribution sites 

• Performs repetitive motions, including reaching, pulling, and pushing 

• Works in varying temperatures, including refrigerated and non-climate-controlled environments 

• Sits for extended periods while operating a vehicle 

• Maintains physical stamina to support fast-paced distribution activities 

• Works in warehouse, truck, and outdoor distribution settings 

• Experiences varying weather conditions such as heat, cold, rain, and humidity 

• Interacts regularly with the public, donors, volunteers, and partner agencies 

• Adapts to a fast-paced environment requiring strong customer service skills 

• Encounters noise levels ranging from moderate to loud depending on equipment and location 

• Follows all safety procedures and uses appropriate personal protective equipment
