Position Summary
The Remote Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC or ACLC) is a currently licensed clinician in the State of Montana who provides telehealth-based Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) services. This role includes virtual group therapy facilitation, individual counseling, ASAM assessments, treatment planning, and required documentation in accordance with Montana regulations and RCM policies.
The Remote LAC/ACLC functions as a member of a multidisciplinary treatment team and ensures delivery of clinically appropriate, ethically sound, and regulation-compliant services through secure telehealth platforms.
This position is fully remote. The clinician must maintain Montana licensure and comply with all telehealth practice standards under Montana law.
Essential Job Functions
Clinical Services
- Conducts initial ASAM assessments and biopsychosocial evaluations via telehealth.
- Facilitates virtual IOP group therapy sessions in accordance with RCM programming standards.
- Provides individual counseling to assigned caseload at least once per week or as clinically indicated.
- Develops individualized treatment plans within agency timelines and reviews/updates them weekly or as required.
- Conducts continued stay reviews and discharge planning.
- Provides family education and/or family counseling sessions as clinically appropriate.
- Provides psychoeducational presentations using virtual tools, screen sharing, and structured curriculum materials.
- Facilitates referrals to outside providers and community resources to ensure continuity of care.
Documentation & Compliance
- Completes all required documentation within 72 hours, consistent with RCM policies and regulatory standards.
- Ensures documentation supports medical necessity and ASAM level of care.
- Maintains accurate, timely charting in the electronic health record.
- Participates in clinical audits and quality assurance reviews as required.

Team Participation
- Participates in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings.
- Collaborates with case managers, peer support, medical providers, and leadership.
- Communicates changes in client status to appropriate departments.
- Attends required staff meetings, clinical meetings, and in-services (virtual).
Crisis & Risk Management
- Identifies and responds to crisis situations via telehealth.
- Implements de-escalation strategies and safety planning.
- Follows RCM emergency telehealth protocols.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Current, active license in Montana as:
- Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC), or
- Addiction Counselor Licensure Candidate (ACLC) with approved supervision.
- Experience facilitating group therapy (IOP experience preferred).
- Experience with electronic health record systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage group dynamics in a virtual setting.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior telehealth counseling experience.
- Experience in ASAM 2.1 Intensive Outpatient Programming.
- Experience working with co-occurring disorders.
- Familiarity with Medicaid documentation requirements.
Additional Requirements
- Successful completion of Criminal Background Check.
- Successful completion of Child Protective Services check (if applicable).
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries in a virtual environment.
- Commitment to trauma-informed, client-centered care.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
- Ability to sit for extended periods.
- Ability to view computer screens for prolonged periods.
- Ability to communicate clearly via video platform.
- Must maintain a professional virtual presence.
Supervision
- Reports to Clinical Director.
- ACLC candidates will receive board-approved supervision as required.
