POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides transportation for the clients from their homes to the center and for appointments during the day. Cleans vehicles, checks regularly for safety, and maintains scheduled maintenance. 14 passenger small buss: no CDL required.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following represents most of the duties performed by the position but is not meant to be all-inclusive or prevent other duties from being assigned when necessary:
- Drive vehicles in a safe and responsible manner utilizing defensive driving skills and in adherence to LIFE program policies and procedures, following assigned routes.
- Load and unload clients in and out of LIFE program vehicles and assist clients up to and from their homes in adherence to LIFE Transportation program policies and standards of practice.
- Transport clients to all requested appointments that have been arranged by the transportation dispatcher.
- Ensure proper wheelchair securement when required.
- Maintain safety and cleanliness of assigned vehicle and coordinate scheduling of van maintenance with transportation dispatcher.
- Maintain the confidentiality of all company procedures, results, and information about clients or families regardless of setting.
- Coordinate scheduling of participant rides with the transportation dispatcher.
- Follow all LIFE program policies and procedures and OSHA safety guidelines to maintain a safe working environment.
- Maintain courteous, helpful, and professional behavior on the job and display a willingness and ability to be responsive in a warm and caring manner.
- Participate in continuing education classes and any required staff and training meetings; and maintain professional affiliations and any required certifications.
- Perform other duties as required or requested in a positive and helpful manner to ensure a smooth-running work area.
Requirements
CERTIFICATION, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Holds and maintains a current Driver’s license
- Possess CPR and basic first aid certification
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of one (1) year of documented experience in working with a frail or elderly population preferred.
- Experienced in transporting individuals with special mobility needs preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
- Working knowledge of physical, mental and social needs of the frail elderly population.
- Function independently, have flexibility, and personal integrity.
- Skilled in identifying and recommending problem resolution; and ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Requires constant hand grasp and finger dexterity; frequent sitting, standing, walking and repetitive leg and arm movements, Frequent bending, reaching forward and overhead, squatting and kneeling. Ability to communicate verbally, with an excellent comprehension of the English language. Has to drive company owned vehicle.
