PURPOSE
This role is responsible for providing operational database services and support for Snoqualmie Casino & Hotel’s systems. This includes maintaining the integrity, security, and availability of all database systems and applications. The Database Administrator will monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure effective backups and disaster recovery plans are in place.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
- Database Management: Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain database servers and applications to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
- System Monitoring and Troubleshooting: Continuously monitor system health and performance metrics, and troubleshoot/resolve any service outages or issues, including after-hours support.
- Security and Compliance: Implement and enforce database security measures, ensure regulatory compliance with gaming regulations, and maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive data.
- Backup and Recovery: Develop, test, and manage backup and recovery plans, ensuring business continuity and disaster recovery preparedness.
- Documentation and Reporting: Write and maintain comprehensive documentation, including data standards, metadata definitions, and custom reports using SQL Reporting Services.
- Technical Support and Development: Provide on-call technical support, assist with hardware builds and maintenance, and develop custom utilities and applications to support database functions.
- Project Management and Mentorship: Lead database-related projects, mentor junior staff, and collaborate with internal teams to deliver effective service solutions.
- Gaming Application Administration: Administer and support gaming applications, ensure effective log management, and provide advanced data analytics for decision-making processes.
- Process Improvement and Efficiency: Identify opportunities for process improvements, develop and refine procedures, and contribute to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of database operations.
Requirements
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. MSSQL, MCDBA, MCTS, MCTP, or MVP certification may be considered in lieu of education.
- Four (4) years of experience in IT operations with a strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices.
- Two (2) years of experience in Database Administration for MS SQL Server, with demonstrated experience:
- Troubleshooting and resolving database problems.
- Performance Tunning and Optimization (PTO) using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
- Implementing operational automation using scripts.
- Managing High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options.
Skills and Abilities:
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of MS SQL Server, including installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Expertise in Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO) using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
- Security and Compliance: Strong understanding of database security, access controls, and regulatory compliance requirements, particularly in the gaming industry.
- High Availability and Disaster Recovery: Strong understanding of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions for MS SQL Server.
- Scripting and Automation: Proficiency in scripting languages such as T-SQL, PowerShell, and VBScript for automating database tasks and processes.
- Data Analysis: Ability to design and generate complex reports using SQL Reporting Services and provide advanced data analytics to support decision-making.
- Gaming System Expertise: Knowledge of gaming systems integration, including Bally’s servers and related software applications to support casino operations.
- Problem Solving: Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills to quickly diagnose and resolve database-related issues, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
- Attention to Detail: Keen attention to detail to maintain data integrity, accuracy, and consistency across all database systems.
- Communication and Collaboration: Effective written and oral communication skills to document processes, write reports, and collaborate with internal stakeholders and external vendors.
PREFERRED
Education and Experience:
- MSSQL, MCDBA, MCTS, MCTP, MVP or similar certification.
- Experience working with Bally’s servers, networking, and interfaces.
- Experience working with VMWare Virtualization.
Snoqualmie Casino & Hotel exercises Snoqualmie Tribal Member/Native American preference in hiring, in compliance with the Snoqualmie Tribal Employment Rights Ordinance (TERO). You must obtain and maintain a Gaming License from the Snoqualmie Gaming Commission. Pre-employment drug testing is required for all positions. The use of marijuana will not disqualify an applicant for positions in any department other than Transportation (Valet, Driver I). DOT panel testing is required for the Driver position.
