Manager, Harmony Equine Center | Humane Colorado | Franktown, CO
Humane Colorado is seeking an experienced and mission driven leader to manage the Harmony Equine Center and oversee daily equine shelter operations. This role ensures the highest standards of humane care while leading staff, volunteers, facilities, and community partnerships.
The Manager provides hands on operational leadership, drives process improvement, supports fiscal responsibility, and fosters a strong, people centered team culture. Purpose of Position: Provide leadership and day-to-day management and oversight of the operations at the Harmony Equine Center, in alignment with overall organizational shelter operations.
Responsibilities
- Direct, monitor, and ensure humane treatment and handling of horses and other animals, including monitoring and ensuring sanitation standards are adhered to and treatments are consistent with protocols.
- Monitor the maintenance, cleanliness, sanitation, and safety of equipment, facilities, and grounds.
- Ensure that the highest level of people care is delivered to staff, patrons, volunteers, partners, donors, and vendors.
- Monitor and evaluate processes and procedures to ensure efficient use of resources and effective systems for equine sheltering.
- Stay up to date with best practices and new innovations in equine welfare, to ensure the League is providing optimal care and optimizing outcomes. Ensure SOPs are updated, practiced, and communicated to staff and volunteers.
- Assist with performing euthanasia.
- Serve as a liaison and promote the organization’s goals to the local community, law enforcement agencies, courts and other animal welfare related organizations, including local animal control agencies.
- Represent the Harmony Equine Center at various community functions/special events and develop and maintain relationships with local businesses and community organizations.
- Manage external partnerships and vendors to provide services as needed.
- Ensure the proper utilization of and integration of department volunteers.
- Assist with the development and monitoring of the budget.
- Manages and develops an effective staff: providing effective communication, leadership, guidance and resources. Determines staff qualifications and competency: recruits, interviews, selects, hires, trains, orients, mentors, evaluates, coaches, counsels, disciplines, and rewards. Establishes and monitors staff safety and regulatory compliance.
- Develop and fulfill realistic and ambitious departmental objectives and plans.
- Oversee daily financial transactions.
- Participate in inter-departmental meetings and discussions to support and develop organizational initiatives.

Compensation: $62,322 - $71, 600 annually (starting pay commensurate with market, experience, and equity)
Work Conditions and Physical Requirements
Work is performed in a horse boarding/barn setting. Exposure to potentially dangerous or life-threatening situations. Requires a high degree of safety and caution when dealing with potentially violent situations. Works in all weather conditions. Exposure to animals requiring medical treatment for diseases, injuries, etc. May require after-hours response for emergencies. Frequent walking, standing, bending and stooping. Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs. with reasonable accommodation.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong organizational and planning skills with ability to gather, assemble, correlate, and analyze facts and devise solutions or plans
- Able to demonstrate exceptional discretion, judgement, impartiality and confidentiality when dealing with personnel issues, financial issues, and proprietary information.
- Able to set goals, prioritize, delegate work, and provide feedback to others to complete multiple tasks on or before deadline.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs
Required
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent experience
- Work Experience: Three years of operations experience in equine industry including supervisory experience
- Special Training, Certification or Licensure: Valid driver’s license with insurable driving record
Desired
- Working knowledge of facility management
- Working Knowledge of veterinary practices and procedures
- Working knowledge of guidelines and practices in an animal welfare/shelter or horse boarding environment
