Humane Colorado has five facilities, including: • Two shelters for homeless pets that offer adoptions, pet admissions, lost-and-found services and humane education classes for the public: The Leslie A. Malone Center in Denver The Buddy Center in Castle Rock • The Harmony Equine Center, a private rehabilitation and adoption center for equine victims of mistreatment, as well as horses that come from partner humane societies and rescue groups to receive professional training and opportunities for new lives. • Veterinary Hospital at CSU Spur, a full-service animal hospital for owned pets to prevent and alleviate suffering in pets whose caretakers would otherwise be unable to provide this medical care.

This role is located in the heart of Castle Rock at the Buddy Center, part of Humane Colorado, an organization dedicated to ending pet homelessness and promoting compassionate care. Join us in this vital role, where you'll ensure the health, well-being, and humane treatment of animals while providing exceptional service to our community.


Purpose of Position: Provide assistance to patrons relinquishing animals to Humane Colorado.


Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-level customer service to patrons.
  • Provide daily animal relinquishment, stray, and evaluation services.
  • Provide end-of-life care for animals at their owner’s request.
  • Interview patrons to gather information to create animal records in Chameleon database.
  • Manage emotionally difficult situations with strong communication skills.
  • Provide information about the organization's resources and programs.
  • Prepare and reconcile statements of daily financial transactions.
  • Safely handle, restrain, and move animals. This includes coordination and movement to address contagion concerns.
  • Perform basic behavior and health evaluation to determine path of animal.
  • Administer vaccinations and preventative medications.
  • Administer medications as directed to shelter animals.
  • Communicate with other departments to coordinate and assist with care of shelter animals.
  • Coordinate the movement of animals within the Buddy Center and between the Buddy Center and the other Humane Colorado shelters.
  • Contribute to and lead initiatives to improve processes and procedures.
  • Clean and sanitize evaluation and intake areas.
  • Provide food, water, and care for animals.
  • Thoroughly clean and sanitize animal kennels and other work areas.
  • Direct and provide guidance for Buddy Canter volunteers.
  • Adhere to all safety, training, and handling and transportation protocols to ensure that the Shelter environment is safe for animals, the public, volunteers and other employees.
  • Wear required identification and use personal protective clothing and safety equipment as defined by policies and procedures.
  • Perform euthanasia and related tasks.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Schedule: 10 hour shifts, 4 days a week. Weekend availability required.


Compensation: $20.00 - $20.90 per hour (starting pay commensurate with market, experience, and equity)


Work Conditions and Physical Requirements

Handle and restrain animals of various sizes, weights, and temperaments. Subject to animal bites or scratches. Work performed in high noise level areas. Prolonged periods of sitting and repetitive motion. Exposure to cleaning chemicals, fumes, dust, animal dander, and feces. Physical efforts require constant bending, stooping, standing, and walking, Frequent lifting of animals and objects up to 50 lbs. with reasonable accommodations and occasional lifting up to 75 lbs. with reasonable accommodation. Will be required to work evenings, weekends and/or holidays as business operations demand.
