Department Description
The Genomics group is part of GSK’s Cellular Biomarkers Platform Sciences organization and supports translational and clinical research across the R&D portfolio by providing strategic and technical leadership to clinical and research teams across advanced assay platforms - including genomics, transcriptomics, spatial transcriptomics, and next‑generation proteomics - supporting informed biomarker selection and study design. Job Description
We are seeking a summer intern to support data quality control, processing, and exploratory analysis for genomics and next‑generation proteomics platforms. The selected candidate will work with structured biological datasets, contribute to standardized QC and data processing workflows, and gain hands‑on exposure to data infrastructure and basic automation or AI‑enabled approaches. This role provides practical experience in how scientific data is curated, validated, and prepared for downstream analysis in an industry R&D environment.
The selected candidate’s responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
- Contributing to the development, testing, or refinement of primary analysis or QC scripts under guidance from senior team members.
- Assisting with data cleaning, transformation, and processing using Python or R to prepare datasets for downstream analysis and reporting.
- Conducting basic exploratory data analysis and generating summary statistics and visualizations to assess data quality and trends.
- Supporting organization of databases in shared repositories to enable traceability, version control, and reproducibility.
- Assisting with documentation of data workflows, QC outcomes, and analysis assumptions.
- Gaining introductory exposure to automation or AI‑enabled approaches for data QC under close supervision.
- Participating in team meetings and presenting progress, QC findings, or small analyses to a scientific audience as appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Data Science/Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or a related quantitative discipline.
- Familiarity with common data manipulation, visualization, and analysis libraries in Python/R (e.g., pandas / tidyverse) and Linux systems or MATLAB through coursework or projects.
- Must be able to work full-time (35-40 hours/week) throughout the duration of the 12 week internship (May/June ~ August 2026).
- Must have an active student status and/or within 12 months post-graduation from a BS or MS degree program. Post-doctoral candidates are not eligible.
Preferred Qualifications
- Exposure to reproducible analysis practices (e.g., scripts, structured documentation, basic version control) and working in notebooks (e.g., Jupyter or R Markdown)
- Familiarity with basic Genomics wet-lab concepts and techniques such as DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, and next-generation sequencing.
- Exposure to basic bioinformatics or high-dimensional biology data concepts (e.g., matrices, normalization concepts, dimensionality reduction/cluster visualization) through coursework or independent learning.
- Familiarity with using AI/ML libraries such as OpenAI or Scikit-learn.

- Must successfully pass a drug screen and background check prior to assignment target start date.

This job posting is for a temporary role as an employee of Atrium on assignment at GSK. The individual selected for this role will be offered the role as an employee of Atrium; compensation, medical benefits, fringe benefits and other terms and conditions of employment shall be presented by Atrium upon offer. The pay rate range provided is a reasonable estimate of the anticipated compensation range for this job at the time of posting. The actual pay rate will be based on several factors, including skills, competencies, experience, educational degree obtained, location and/or being pursued and other job-related factors permitted by law.
In addition, this role will be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirement.
Pay Rate Range: $22/hr to $43/hr
