Job Summary
The Urban League of Rochester seeks a Job Developer/Apprenticeship Coordinator for Workforce Development programs. Programs provide TASC preparation, classroom and hands-on construction training, personal development activities, and job placement assistance to disadvantaged out-of-school youth ages 18 to 24.
- Provide individualized academic and vocational counseling and guide participants in developing individualized career pathways.
- Recruit participants that have a strong interest in apprenticeship opportunities.
- Provide pathways for direct placement into apprenticeship opportunities.
- Create and develop effective relationships with employers and apprenticeship programs.
- Facilitate work readiness training with participants.
- Organize employer advisory group meetings.
- Develop job positions in the private sector suited to applicants’ needs.
- Assess participants’ skill levels and provide counseling to assist in realistic employment plans commensurate with skill levels and experience.
- Secure accurate job descriptions for job openings and match individuals' skills and qualifications to the job.
- Schedule employment interviews for participants.
- Conduct follow-up on placements to determine participants' progress and job retention.
- Provide follow-up counseling when requested by either employer or participant after job placement.
- Maintain necessary records to ensure effective referral and placement.
- Complete reports that track progress.
- Attend Urban League of Rochester events and fundraising functions.
- Perform other relevant duties as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in counseling, social work, education, public administration, or related social science field preferred.
- At least two years of experience in a related area, including administrative and employment background, preferred. Ability to relate to, communicate with, and work with a diverse population and understand the issues relating to such population.
- Ability to relate well with others, be a team player with a positive can-do attitude.
- Needs to be assertive and communicate effectively with trainees and company personnel.
- Competency with Microsoft Office '97, including Word and Excel.
- Must be customer service oriented.
- Must be able to tolerate and handle stressful situations calmly and professionally.
- Knowledge of available community resources is a plus
