Department Description

The Drug Product Development (DPD) organization is a highly experienced Chemistry, Manufacturing and Controls (CMC) organization accountable for delivering robust, cost effective and competitive products and manufacturing processes spanning the full life-cycle of asset development from discovery through commercialization. These activities are delivered through state-of-the-art internal facilities as well as strategic external partners. Collectively, the team is accountable for CMC activities encompassing small molecule, oligonucleotide and biopharm drug product/ device development and packaging. We also pioneer innovative technologies to improve robustness, reduce cost of goods, and improve the patient experience.

Job Description

  • Work as a Pharmaceutical Technology - process engineering or process analytical technology (PAT) Intern in a multi-disciplinary Process Engineering and Analytics team in DPD, liaising efficiently with Process Engineers, Formulators, Materials Scientists, Modelers, PAT Scientists, automation experts and data scientists, to deliver the work packages required to develop mechanistic understanding in drug product unit operations (example, Lyophilization, Mixing, Dissolution).
  • Conduct research work in a state of the art GSK Steriles laboratory in the field of Steriles Process Engineering and PAT and can be stretched to the collaborative areas of modeling, Materials Science, and others.
  • Assist in designing the experiment plan, execute the experiment plan, and finally collate the experimental results into a research report for all the projects accomplished during the duration of the internship.
  • Actively participate in team meetings, project meetings, share work updates to team members on a regular basis
  • Together, advance understanding and improve current ways of working in Process development areas (linked to Materials Science, Formulation, modeling, PAT, others).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Pursuing a PhD or Master's in Engineering, Pharmacy, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, or other relevant science field.
  • Experience with PAT and/or process engineering projects including data collection, interpretation and analysis.
  • Proficient in Microsoft word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Must be able to work full-time (35-40 hours/week) throughout the duration of the 12-week internship (May/June-August 2026)
  • Must have an active student status and/or within 12 months post-graduation from a BS or MS degree program. Post-doctoral candidates are not eligible.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Candidates who have familiarity with the concepts of Process Analytical Technology (PAT), multivariate data analysis (MVDA) and experience in the use of Raman, NIR, hyperspectral imaging technologies and chemometric packages like PLS-Toolbox, Unscrambler for data-driven modeling would be a plus.
  • Experience leading a multi experiment project resulting in valuable learnings.
  • Experience generating models from a variety of spectroscopic data sets or experience with data analytic software.
  • Candidates with prior biotech research or pharmaceutical co-op/internship experience.
  • Candidates with track record of working in a team environment.

  • While GSK embraces a flexible work environment, we do require certain positions to be onsite. Candidates who are hired for an on-site role or hybrid role, and reside outside of 50-miles from their assigned work location, are eligible for relocation stipend. This is a one-time payment to help offset housing & relocation expenses. Please refer to the position details for the requirements of each position. 
  • GSK Interns and Co-ops are offered a competitive hourly pay rate and benefits. Please note, benefits eligibility determined the month following date of hire.
  • This job posting is for a temporary role as an employee of Atrium on assignment at GSK. The individual selected for this role will be offered the role as an employee of Atrium; compensation, medical benefits, fringe benefits and other terms and conditions of employment shall be presented by Atrium upon offer. The pay rate range provided is a reasonable estimate of the anticipated compensation range for this job at the time of posting. The actual pay rate will be based on several factors, including skills, competencies, experience, educational degree obtained, location and/or being pursued and other job-related factors permitted by law.

    In addition, this role will be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirement.

    • Pay Rate Range: $22/hr to $43/hr
