JOB SUMMARY

The Lead Technician performs maintenance tasks for company assets.  They will assist maintenance staff with overhauling minor components and installing replacements, using electrical, hydraulic and computer diagnostics. They will lead both scheduled and unscheduled preventative maintenance.  This position acts in a supervisory capacity in the absence of the shop supervisor.  


CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Perform failure analysis and report findings to maintenance management. 
  2. Lead other personnel in the diagnosis and replacement of components
  3. Train new hires on data maintenance software and correctly following shop policy and procedures
  4. Perform and document audits on work leaving the shop to maintain Quality Control
  5. Maintain Quality Assurance by ensuring repairs are done following proper procedures
  6. Triage work load to determine time/skill requirements and assign work orders in absence of shift supervisor
  7. Perform preventative maintenance and technical inspections and complete follow up repairs in a timely fashion without come backs
  8. Perform diagnosis and component replacement on Class 8 trucks
  9. Participate in root cause analysis
  10. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when and where required.
  11. Report immediately any safety violations and correcting unsafe acts or conditions.
  12. Comply with company safety policies and with applicable state and federal regulations.
  13. May be required to drive a vehicle with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) not to exceed 26,000 pounds within the confines of the company footprint.
  14. Requisition parts as necessary and maintain accountability of inventory.
  15. Maintain repair order documentation to include repair description, parts used and repair times.
  16. Ensure the work area is clean and neat.
  17. Other duties as assigned.


REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 3 or more years of diesel experience
  • At least 1 year of experience in the waste industry
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Effective time management skills
  • Ability to explain troubleshooting procedure for hydraulic, electrical, mechanical and pneumatic components
  • Ability to read labels, safety warnings, and guidelines
  • Ability to pay attention to detail and remain alert to ensure safety
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions and to communicate with co-workers
  • Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced environment


PREFERRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or its equivalent
  • Texas Class B Commercial Driver’s License
  • Safe driving for the last five years 


REQUIRED LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS

  • Valid Class C Drivers license
  • Safe driving record for the past three years
  • Completion of 3 of the following
    • DOT Inspectors License
    • ASE Certification in 2 exams T1-T8 (Additional completions count toward additional certification requirements)
    • Mack Online Training Path, Technician Level A
    • Meritor Bullpen AND Stemco Curriculum
    • Allison, McNeilus, Cummins, Mack, Paccar or other relevant OEM Certification (Additional completions count toward additional certification requirements)
