Description

Position Overview:


The Auburn YMCA Early Learning Center is seeking a dedicated Lead Cook to oversee the planning, preparation, and service of nutritious meals and snacks for children enrolled in our programs. This individual will play a key role in supporting the health and wellness of our students by providing balanced meals that meet child nutrition standards. The Lead Cook will manage all aspects of the kitchen, including menu planning, ordering, food safety, and daily preparation.

Schedule:

  • Monday – Friday, daytime hours
  • Part-Time Position up to 30 Hours
  • The role will transition from the William St. YMCA to Camp Y-Owasco for 8 Weeks over the Summer.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience preparing meals in a school system, childcare center, or similar setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of child nutrition and meal planning.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • ServSafe certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.


Plan monthly meal calendars that meet nutritional guidelines for young children.

  • Prepare and serve daily meals and snacks in a timely manner.
  • Order, receive, and manage food and supply inventory to ensure cost-effective and efficient kitchen operations.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen environment in compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Ensure meals accommodate children with food allergies and dietary restrictions.
  • Collaborate with Early Learning Center staff to support a positive mealtime experience.
  • Promote healthy eating habits by providing meals that are both nutritious and appealing to children.
  • Maintain records of menus, food orders, and inventory as required.
