Permitted Substitute Teacher


Job Purpose


As a Permitted Substitute Teacher, you will deliver high-quality Early Childhood Development services to preschool-aged children, supporting their educational, social, physical, nutritional, and emotional growth. You will also engage with parents, maintain student records, and ensure a safe and nurturing learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement daily lesson plans following curriculum guidelines
  • Supervise children during classroom and outdoor activities
  • Conduct developmental assessments and maintain records (manual & digital)
  • Prepare and serve meals; promote healthy hygiene habits (including diapering if needed)
  • Organize and lead educational and physical activities
  • Support parent-teacher conferences and occasional home visits
  • Supervise Teacher Assistants and provide feedback
  • Travel to various school locations (minimum of 15 miles)


Requirements

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year experience as a preschool teacher, aide, or assistant (Head Start experience a plus)
  • Child Development Associate Teacher Permit or higher required
  • A.A. Degree or higher and 12+ ECE units highly preferred
  • 3 units in Infant/Toddler care preferred
  • CPR/First Aid certification
  • Strong knowledge of ECE theory, child development, and classroom management
  • Excellent observation, organizational, and communication skills
  • Valid CA Driver’s License & proof of insurance or reliable transportation
  • DOJ fingerprint clearance (Livescan with CA Community Care Licensing)
  • Bilingual skills a plus

Special Requirements

  • TB test (within past 11 months) & health screen clearance
  • Immunizations: MMR, Tdap, Flu
  • COVID-19 vaccination or approved exemption
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs. and meet physical demands of working with young children
