What You'll Do:
In the Site Safety Coordinator role, you’ll ensure a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for all participants, staff, and visitors. This role integrates traditional safety and security responsibilities with trauma-informed care principles—prioritizing dignity, respect, and non-escalatory communication while responding to incidents. The site safety coordinator works proactively to prevent conflicts, de-escalate tensions, and support a community culture of mutual respect for clients, visitors, and staff, in support of the mission and objectives of Interfaith Community Services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides a visible presence inside and outside agency facilities
- Maintains a safe and secure environment for clients, visitors, and staff (drug-, alcohol-, and violence-free)
- Responds to and reports of suspicious behavior to prevent illegal or inappropriate activities, loitering, theft, unsafe conditions, and potential conflicts
- Conducts welfare checks on clients within the premises
- Performs hourly security and safety sweeps of the building
- Secures windows, doors, and building entrances at the proper time and sequence
- Warns violators of policy infractions and removes clients barred from agency premises in accordance with protocols
- Observes and reports unusual activity or potentially dangerous situations
- Notifies law enforcement if a situation escalates or presents a danger
- Promptly notifies supervisor and other appropriate staff of problematic client behaviors, compliance issues, or other concerns
- Conducts inspections and searches as assigned
- Accurately records all emergency, disciplinary, and other events that occur during scheduled shifts
- Immediately reports medical emergencies to appropriate agencies
- Administers First Aid/CPR as trained
- Follows agency protocols and standard procedures in emergency situations
- Coordinates utilities checks, fire drills, and other safety inspections to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and Local standards
- Assists staff with cleanup (washing dishes, cleaning counters, laundering of linens, etc.) as needed
- Assists program team members with minor maintenance (replace lightbulbs, trash disposal, etc.)
- Ensures properties meet standards to pass all required inspections
- Demonstrates a positive role model for clients through consistent, fair, and respectful interactions
- Uses de-escalation techniques to address behavioral concerns without re-traumatization
- Maintains professional boundaries while fostering a safe, welcoming environment
- Appropriately responds to signs of distress, fear, or agitation
- Maintains effective communication with staff throughout each shift
- Keeps staff and management informed of any safety, discipline, or compliance issues, including suspected drug use
- Participates in all staff meetings and required training
- Performs additional duties as assigned to support the safety and mission of the organization
Requirements
Who You Are:
You're passionate about making a lasting impact, whether supporting individuals directly or enhancing our organizational effectiveness. To thrive in this role, you'll:
- High School Diploma or equivalent, required
- Valid CPR, Basic Life Support (BLS) and First Aid certificate/s to be completed within three (3) months of hire
- 1+ years of work experience in a shelter, social services or nonprofit setting, preferred
- Experience working with severely mentally ill, medically fragile, and homeless populations, preferred
- Bilingual (Spanish/English), preferred

- Ability to prioritize, multitask, and meet multiple deadlines in fast-paced, high-pressure environments
- Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment
- Working knowledge of mental health, co-occurring disorders, substance use treatment models, and crisis intervention
- Knowledge of adult development and community and social service resources
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary and collaborative teams
- Ability to communicate professionally with a diverse workforce and maintain positive working relationships across all organizational levels
- Demonstrates teamwork, cooperation, and a strong sense of urgency
- Ability to establish and maintain appropriate professional boundaries with clients
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality of client and employee information
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

- Work is performed primarily in a residential, shelter, or housing facility with regular on-site presence
- Position may require rotating shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays

- Moderate physical activity, including standing, walking throughout the facility, stair use, and occasional lifting of supplies or equipment

- Work environment may be fast-paced and unpredictable, requiring flexibility and adaptability
- Ability to occasionally move, lift, carry, push, or pull materials weighing up to 25–30 pounds
- Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and grasp as necessary to perform essential job functions
- Ability to communicate effectively and exchange information verbally and in writing

Location: On-site/Onside
Hours: Sunday-Thursday: 10pm-6:30am
Hourly Rate: $22.00-$24.33
