The Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Technician Locator will be responsible for assisting the Lead Locator (crew chief) in all aspects of electronically and physically locating underground utilities. This is an entry-level position.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required.
What you will do:
- Uses ground-penetrating radar (GPR), handheld electromagnetic (EM) locators, and other specialized devices, including vacuum-excavation equipment to locate underground utilities (communication, electric, water, sewer, gas, etc.)
- Drive, operate, and maintain vacuum excavation and support vehicles to provide vertical location and disposition of underground utilities.
- Regularly uses a variety of hand and power tools, including but not limited to wrenches, drivers, drills, pneumatic hammers, etc.
- Assists with Maintenance of Traffic (MOT).
- Keeps the vacuum excavation trucks and support vehicles stocked with appropriate equipment, supplies, and tools, as well as paints, flags, signs, asphalt, and concrete, etc.
- Participates in maintaining a safe work environment for all utility crew members
Who you are:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license with a clean Motor Vehicle Report
- Company training will be provided
- Good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to think critically
- Ability to travel out of town as needed
- Ability to work outdoors, sometimes in adverse weather conditions, and overnight as needed
- Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. regularly
