Calibration Technician Apprentice is the position into which successful Technician Trainees are promoted.  The position requires successful competency within two (2) disciplines and completion of learning activities as assigned. Proficiency and expertise are determined in accordance with Transcat’s technician skills progression matrix. Technician Apprentices are expected to continue their development path and skill building necessary to perform calibration work independently within the lab environment.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision and direction of technicians within the lab, learn calibration fundamentals, which can include dimensional, electrical, pressure, and temperature
  • Develop skills necessary to perform calibrations independently
  • Fulfill duties safely under working conditions, in keeping with Company requirements and standards 
  • Other duties as assigned

Primary Objectives

  • Learn fundamental calibration techniques and processes
  • Develop skills necessary to advance to Calibration Technician I position within 18 months of employment, which requires working knowledge and competency in at least three (3) disciplines.
  • Deliver on Transcat’s Quality Policy (QAC-F01-001)

Qualifications

Required Education & Experience

High School diploma or GED

 

Preferred:

  • Previous experience or training in electronics or machining
  • Basic mathematical skills including algebra, geometry, and statistics
  • Familiarity with basic hand tools
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office computer software including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Basic organizational and time management skills

While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to read, write, talk, and hear. The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers to handle tools and equipment. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Occasionally will be required to lift up to 75 lbs.

 

Work Environment

The work environment described here is representative of what an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to risk of electrical shock. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
