Senior Application Architect (Mobile / iOS Focus) - ASAP Start - Finance Sector - Freelance / CDI

A large European financial and digital services organisation is seeking a Senior Application Architect to strengthen its mobile platforms division. In this role, you will contribute to the design, implementation, and evolution of complex application architectures, with a specific focus on mobile ecosystems and iOS technology leadership.

You will collaborate closely with architects, database designers, development teams, analysts, and product stakeholders to ensure high‑quality, secure, scalable, and future‑proof digital solutions.

Core Responsibilities

Application Architecture

• Lead the implementation of application architecture across multiple platforms and teams.
• Enhance and optimise the organisation’s information systems by expanding and refining architectural components.
• Identify and promote reusable infrastructure and data‑modelling assets.
• Manage database architecture, including selecting and designing storage systems.
• Support both application development and long‑term maintenance.

Technical Leadership (Mobile / iOS)

• Shape the technical roadmap and direction of the iOS platform.
• Design and implement complex, high‑impact platform features and architectural improvements.
• Influence architectural decisions relating to modularisation, scalability, performance, and security.
• Safeguard and evolve coding standards, development practices, and architectural guidelines.

Coaching & Team Enablement

• Mentor developers and support their technical growth.
• Provide in‑depth code and architecture reviews with structured, constructive feedback.
• Promote clean code, effective testing practices, and engineering excellence.

Cross‑Team Collaboration

• Align with Android teams on cross‑platform principles and architectural consistency.
• Work with UX, backend, security, and architecture stakeholders to ensure cohesive end‑to‑end solutions.
• Contribute to broader mobile strategy and technical discussions beyond iOS.

Innovation & Future Vision

• Evaluate emerging technologies, frameworks, and platform evolutions.
• Convert long‑term platform vision into actionable technical roadmaps.
• Identify opportunities to simplify, modernise, and innovate within mobile architecture.

Technical Experience

• 5+ years of experience in designing and implementing application architecture.
• 8+ years of professional iOS development experience with ownership of complex applications.
• Strong expertise in Swift, including SwiftUI and UIKit.
• Experience with modular architectures and the Swift Package Manager.
• Advanced understanding of networking (URLSession, Codable, async/await).
• Familiarity with iOS design patterns (MVVM, Coordinator, DI).
• Understanding of accessibility and inclusive mobile design.
• Strong awareness of mobile security (e.g., certificate pinning).
• Solid knowledge of the iOS release pipeline and App Store processes.
• Proficiency with Git‑based workflows (GitHub/Bitbucket).
• Experience with CI/CD environments.
