About the Role

Caprock Academy is seeking a School Counselor.  Caprock Academy is a public, tuition-free school chartered by the Colorado Charter School Institute and utilizes the timeless principles of classically oriented education.  As a person integral to Caprock Academy’s team, the School Counselor will maintain the integrity of, advocate for, and facilitate the implementation of Caprock Academy’s Vision, Mission, and Core Values of character, accountability and academics.  


Caprock Academy follows the Core Knowledge© curriculum in grades K–8. This curriculum encompasses language arts, mathematics, science, history, geography, fine arts, and physical education. The curriculum is characterized by content-rich instruction, cumulative knowledge, content-specific lessons, and coherent sequencing.  The foundation of our academics are rooted in classical education philosophy and pedagogy, following the grammar, logic and rhetoric trivium. The school’s mission is to help all students achieve their highest academic and character potential using proven, accelerated academic programs while providing a safe environment. This mission is achieved through our vision of strengthening the community through the involvement of parents, educators, and community leaders working together to provide an environment that fosters academic excellence and develops strong character in our students.  We shape global citizens who set life goals and practice lives of service and virtue. 


A school counselor at Caprock Academy works with students and staff members in order to ensure that all students meet their potential academically, socially, and emotionally as well as with post-secondary readiness.  Through scheduled visits, classroom counseling lessons and college and career transition meetings, all students are served in a way that challenges them and helps them to grow into global citizens that can think for and advocate for themselves.  The school counselor might also assist the Special Education department as needed with observations and assessments of students to help determine what is needed to best help them to succeed. 


FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Salary Exempt 

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Regular, full-time  

WORK HOURS: 40 hours per week 

PAY RANGE:   starting salary  $50,000/annually

REPORTS TO:  Head of School 

Requirements

 

Essential Duties 

  • Ability to work with all grades from kindergarten through 12th grade but the focus for this position is on grades 7th through 12th grade  
  • Provide college and career readiness counsel 
  • Work with Students on ICAP coordination and student support 
  • Advanced Placement program coordination and testing 
  • SAT, PSAT and NMSQT Testing and Coordination 
  • High School course requests, schedule changes and academic planning 
  • K-12 master schedule development 
  • 7-12 SEL counseling 
  • Assist students and families to acquire community resources 
  • Work with students on plans, i.e. IEP, 504, ALP, etc. regarding social emotional goals contained within those plans 
  • Collaborate with families/teachers/administrators regarding student issues as needed 
  • Conduct suicide risk assessments 
  • Present pertinent monthly classroom lessons to 7th to 11th grade in collaboration with instructional staff 
  • Provide student group counseling opportunities  
  • Works closely with deans and school discipline issues 
  • Other duties as assigned 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred 
  • Master’s degree in counseling (Required) from a CACREP accredited school 
  • Colorado Department of Education Special Service Provider License with School Counseling endorsement 
  • Abides by and is affiliated with ASCA guidelines 
  • Thorough understanding of the Caprock family handbook and employee policies/procedures 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Outlook 
  • Ability and willingness to work effectively with colleagues and team members 
  • Professional and personal integrity 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Must be able to pass a background check 
  • CPR and First Aid certification 
  • CPI certification
