Malone Center in Denver The Buddy Center in Castle Rock • The Harmony Equine Center, a private rehabilitation and adoption center for equine victims of mistreatment, as well as horses that come from partner humane societies and rescue groups to receive professional training and opportunities for new lives. • Veterinary Hospital at CSU Spur, a full-service animal hospital for owned pets to prevent and alleviate suffering in pets whose caretakers would otherwise be unable to provide this medical care.
About the Role

Description

Humane Colorado is seeking a dependable and flexible Operations Support Specialist to support daily shelter operations and ensure the highest quality care for animals and patrons. This role works across departments to help wherever needed, providing hands-on support with cleaning, stocking, events, transport, and animal handling.


You’ll assist with offsite adoption events, large animal impounds, maintain clean and organized workspaces, and help with daily care tasks. This role requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, work in a fast-paced environment with exposure to animals and cleaning products, and safely handle animals of all sizes and temperaments. A valid driver's license is required. Candidates must be comfortable working weekends and holidays as needed and be willing to obtain certification in euthanasia-related tasks. Shelter, veterinary, or animal care experience is a plus.

Purpose of the Position: This position provides support to all shelter operations teams by completing administrative, cleaning, and other support tasks ensuring the highest quality care for the animals and patrons served at Humane Colorado.


Responsibilities

  • Will float to various departments to support sheltering teams as assigned.
  • Support incoming in-kind donations and maintain an organized storage space.
  • Ensure hallway clean-up stations are stocked and organized. Maintain the Humane Colorado’s standard of neat and clean facilities in assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Cover tasks, staff shortages, or scheduling challenges as needed.
  • Lead and make plans for offsite adoption events as assigned.
  • Assist with investigations cases as needed, including making plans for large animal impounds.
  • Obtain and maintain required certification to perform duties of euthanasia technician, holder, and trainer.
  • Provide oversight and project management for specific limited or on-going projects and processes.
  • Maintain safe animal handling skills, including the ability to handle dangerous/fractious animals.
  • May provide ongoing support and training to staff and volunteers.
  • Complete driving errands as needed.
  • Partner with departments as needed to ensure the Humane Colorado’s facilities and equipment are in good working order.
  • Provide appropriate content to Development, Marketing, Communications, and Education teams.

Compensation: $22.50-$23.65 per hour (starting pay commensurate with market, experience, and equity)


Work Conditions and Physical Requirements

Handle and restrain animals of various sizes, weights, and temperaments. Subject to animal bites or scratches. Work performed in high noise level areas. Exposure to cleaning chemicals, fumes, dust, animal dander, and feces. Physical efforts require constant bending, stooping, standing, climbing stairs, and walking. Frequent lifting of animals and objects up to 50 lbs. with reasonable accommodation.
