About the Role
 

As our underground miner, you will be performing all aspects of mechanized underground hard-rock mining to keep our production going and our profitability up. Every day you will work in a mine on a remote island about 18 miles outside of Juneau, Alaska. You’ll start every job with safety first by inspecting your workplace, your equipment, and then operate and maintain various types of equipment and tools for production mining. To thrive in this role, you must be able to follow basic survey directions, including maps, prints, grade lines, etc; interfaces and interprets data with engineers and geologists. We’re on a remote island, you must know how to work independently.

The Greens Creek Mine, located on Admiralty Island 18 miles south of Juneau, is an underground polymetallic mine operating since 1989, employing over 500 people. The mine is owned and operated by Hecla Mining Company, headquartered in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Established in 1891, Hecla has a rich history as a distinguished and respected precious metals producer. Winner of numerous safety and environmental awards, Greens Creek is seeking new team members committed to professional growth and success.

Here’s what you can expect in this role:  

  • Training first. Every hire is provided MSHA training in the first 4 days on the job. We also provide department-level training on not just what to do, but safety, as well. 
  • Apply your operational aptitude maintaining, and troubleshooting electrohydraulic jumbos, bolters, UG haul trucks, and other underground equipment.
  • Working on a remote island and living in a mining camp environment away from home if you are not Juneau based. 
  • Providing support to complete underground development and production mining.
  • You’ll be below ground doing workplace inspections assigned each morning. Then, we’ll rely on you to prioritize your work before you get started.  
  • You'll pass a background screening for ATF (Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms).
  • Safety is important. Every piece of equipment and each work area must be inspected before we start the day for your safety and the safety of your team.

  • This is for a 20 day on,10 day off schedule UG Miner position.
