Position Type: Seasonal
Expected Hours of Work: Lead all swim team practices, swim meets, and team functions throughout the season. Adding Pre-Season afternoon swim practices as available due to weather. All back-office work as needed.

Job Summary and Objectives:
The Head Swim Team Coach is responsible for coaching Woodhill’s summer swim team and will provide direct leadership, instruction, and motivation for swim team participants Coach is expected to attend all swim meets and team functions throughout the season. The Head Swim Team Coach has a direct responsibility for creating and maintaining a safe and fun environment for the swim team participants. The Head Swim Coach makes every reasonable effort to continually improve the manner in which the job is performed and increase the quality of service to members and guests. Woodhill partners with Lafayette Club swim team for all its dual and championship meets, thus coaching coordination and joint lineups are utilized. Woodhill pool hosts all home swim meets.
Additionally, the purpose of the Western Swim League “WSL” is to organize and develop young swimmers in a manner consistent with basic principles of athletic competition, discipline, and good sportsmanship. Since USA Swimming already exists, the WSL is a unique alternative where members’ children can gather socially and compete during the summer season. To this end, the league will maintain a weekly schedule of inter-club dual meets between member teams, culminating in an all member championship swim meet at the end of the season: in 2026 the finals will be held on Saturday, July 25th.
Essential Job Functions:
· Build a positive team environment that values sportsmanship, effort, and respect.
· Develop and deliver weekday structured practice plans that build skills, conditioning, and confidence in the swimmers.
· Communicate clearly with athletes, parents, and the club in a consistent and positive manner.
· Coordinate meet lineups, entries, parent timer volunteers for meets, and event strategies, including Champs and Jr Champs at end of season.
· Hire personable, dependable, and enthusiastic swim team assistant coaches who are committed to the swimmers and coaches who will likely return for multiple seasons.
· Create thorough, ability-appropriate workouts focusing on technique, endurance, stroke development, drills, etc.
· Lead and support the Junior swim team practices (swimming the width of pool) so that kids have fun, build skills and want to join team to compete in 6 and Under next season, etc. This involves encouraging swimmers and fostering a love of swimming. (It also involves communicating to parents who provide the support of the swim program and the future of the team.)
· Success comes from keeping the sport fun and making sure each swimmer has the opportunity to succeed and the resources to achieve their goals. Ultimately, our focus is on ensuring that participation in the sport is a positive and FUN experience.
· Responsible for administrative matters relating to the team, swim meet lineups, and team performance as well as all interaction with parents.
· Attend and represent Woodhill at all swim team events such a meets, WSL meetings, end of season banquet, etc.
· Engage parents and cultivate relationships to create a collaborative swim team environment.
· Provides guidance to the member led Youth Activities Committee for the proper programming based on personnel and funds necessary for operational management.
· Maintain a safe, clean, and fun environment for swim team participants (i.e. set rules for locker room conduct, etc.)
· Assist with the seasonal daily operation of the pool, especially on Home Meet Dates, for 2026: (June 10 Intersquad, June 17 v BearPath, July 8 v Edina)
Requirements
Qualifications:
Required Education and Experience
· Passion to recognize and develop abilities in swimmers of all ages and abilities.
· Positive attitude and proven swim team coaching experience, experience specifically in Western Swim League “WSL” is a plus.
· Desire to perform at a high level with minimal supervision.
· Ability to prioritize, anticipate situations, and take quick action.
· Ability to work weekends and holidays.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Education and Experience
· Lifeguard/CPR certification.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
· Direct supervision of Assistant Swim Coaches.
· Assist with supervision of Lifeguards.
· Act as a liaison between Youth Activities Committee and seasonal staff.
Physical Demands:
· Tasks involve regular, and at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling and that may involve lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds).
Work Environment:
· The Head Swim Coach performs their work at Woodhill’s outdoor pool. This position is performed in outdoor weather conditions with potential exposure to dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, chemical agents, bright/dim light, sun exposure, and temperature extremes.
Compensation & Benefits:
· An hourly rate of $22- $26 per hour plus eligibility for a discretionary performance bonus. Bonus eligibility and amount will be based upon the attainment of mutually established goals and key performance indicators related to member satisfaction scores and swim team enrollment/participation rates.
