Dobbs Truck Group operates 25 commercial truck dealerships through two operating companies – Dobbs Peterbilt and Western Truck Center. These dealerships represent some of the best commercial truck brands including Peterbilt, Volvo, Mack, Autocar, and Hino and include locations in Arkansas, California, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oregon, Tennessee, and Washington.

I. General Job Description


The Systems Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, security, and lifecycle management of the organization’s IT infrastructure, including on-premises systems, cloud platforms, enterprise networks, and critical business services. This role ensures the reliability, performance, scalability, and security of technology systems that support business operations.


The position administers and continuously improves core infrastructure platforms, including server environments and network services, while performing advanced troubleshooting and root-cause analysis to maintain stable and secure systems.

The duties described reflect the general nature of the position and additional related responsibilities may be assigned as business needs evolve.


Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, administer, and support enterprise IT systems across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments, ensuring high availability, performance, scalability, and security.
  • Administer and manage Microsoft 365 services, including Entra ID, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, Intune, Autopilot, Copilot, and Purview, establishing governance, identity, device management, and data protection controls.
  • Manage identity and access services, including modern authentication, conditional access, endpoint management, and integration with on-premises Active Directory environments where applicable.
  • Administer virtualized server environments (VMware ESXi and Microsoft Hyper-V), including system maintenance, lifecycle upgrades, performance monitoring, and capacity planning.
  • Design, implement, and maintain enterprise network infrastructure, including switching, routing, firewalls, VPN connectivity, and high-availability architectures across corporate and remote locations.
  • Support and maintain secure email and collaboration environments, including messaging security platforms and enforcement of authentication standards such as DMARC, SPF, and DKIM.
  • Ensure the reliability of enterprise backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions through monitoring, verification, and periodic restoration testing.
  • Leverage automation and scripting (e.g., PowerShell, APIs) to streamline infrastructure management, reporting, and operational processes.
  • Monitor infrastructure and network health using enterprise monitoring tools, proactively identifying issues and optimizing system performance.
  • Lead or contribute to enterprise initiatives including infrastructure upgrades, cloud adoption, technology refreshes, new site deployments, and integration activities related to mergers and acquisitions.
  • Support security and regulatory compliance efforts (e.g., PCI, FTC) through system hardening, policy implementation, audit support, and remediation activities.
  • Provide advanced technical escalation support to the Helpdesk team and assist in resolving complex infrastructure and end-user issues.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of system architecture, configurations, and operational procedures.

 II. Minimum Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in systems engineering, infrastructure administration, or a related enterprise IT role.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise IT infrastructure, including server platforms, virtualization, storage, and networking fundamentals (LAN/WAN, TCP/IP, and common networking protocols).
  • Experience administering enterprise server environments such as Windows Server and/or Linux, including virtualized infrastructure platforms (e.g., VMware ESXi, Microsoft Hyper-V).
  • Experience supporting hybrid or cloud-based services, including Microsoft 365 or similar enterprise platforms.
  • Working knowledge of enterprise backup, recovery, and business continuity solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve complex infrastructure and network issues in production environments.
  • Ability to create and maintain technical documentation (e.g., system architecture and network diagrams) and communicate effectively with technical teams, vendors, and business stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with the ability to manage priorities and adapt to evolving operational needs.
  • Reliable transportation with the ability to travel locally as required.

Desired Job Qualifications

  • Experience supporting hybrid and cloud-based enterprise environments, including Microsoft 365 services such as Entra ID, Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, and Intune, with knowledge of identity, device management, and security controls.
  • Strong experience with enterprise networking technologies, including routing and switching, firewall administration, VPN connectivity, QoS, and troubleshooting across LAN/WAN environments.
  • Experience administering or supporting VoIP platforms (e.g., RingCentral, Microsoft Teams Voice) and ensuring network readiness and call quality optimization.
  • Proficiency with infrastructure monitoring and diagnostics tools to proactively identify, analyze, and resolve performance or availability issues.
  • Experience implementing and managing email and messaging security platforms, including threat protection technologies and authentication standards such as DMARC, SPF, and DKIM.
  • Experience leveraging automation and scripting tools (e.g., PowerShell, APIs) to streamline system administration, reporting, and operational workflows.
  • Working knowledge of database-driven and enterprise applications, including relational databases such as SQL Server or Azure SQL.
  • Experience working within regulated or compliance-driven environments, including frameworks such as PCI, FTC, NIST, or SOC.
  • Relevant industry certifications preferred, such as Microsoft (Azure/M365), Cisco (CCNA or higher), VMware, or equivalent.

III. Mental Capability Requirements

  • Comprehension: Ability to understand, recall, interpret, and communicate both routine and moderately complex technical and operational information. Must be able to clearly convey instructions, procedures, and decisions to team members and end users.
  • Organization: Ability to effectively organize and prioritize both personal workload and team workload on a short- to mid-term basis (longer than one month). Must be able to manage shifting priorities, competing deadlines, and multiple simultaneous support demands.
  • Reasoning and Decision Making: Ability to make sound, timely, and informed decisions with a moderate to significant impact on daily operations, service delivery, and team performance. Must be able to escalate issues appropriately and apply independent judgment in resolving complex technical or customer-service challenges.
  • Communication: Ability to express or exchange ideas clearly, professionally, and efficiently through spoken and written communication. Must be able to communicate with accuracy and clarity when interacting with employees, leadership, customers, and technical staff.
  • Mathematics: Ability to compute, analyze, and interpret numerical data for reporting, performance tracking, inventory management, and other operational metrics.

While performing the duties of this role, the employee is regularly required to sit, communicate, and use hands to operate computers, tools, and equipment. The employee must occasionally lift and move equipment or materials weighing up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.


Work Environment:

The work environment is typically an office or technology support setting with moderate noise levels. The employee is generally not exposed to outdoor weather conditions. Occasional travel to remote sites, dealerships, or operational facilities may be required to support team activities or resolve technical issues.
