Mission of Department:

Provides nursing care under supervisor for assigned patients. Dedicated to providing care that promotes the physical, spiritual, emotional well-being of the people we serve.



Purpose of Position:

To provide direct patient care assisting patients with activities of daily living, providing for personal care, comfort and assistance when necessary.



Essential Functions:

  1. Assist with admission and discharge of new patients, attending to all details according to

     established procedure.

2. Maintain order and neatness in patient rooms, assist patients as needed, providing fresh

     water, nourishment, serving meals, assisting with baths, etc.

3. Perform other miscellaneous patient care services, such as giving baths, back rubs,                          

     transporting patient when necessary, etc.

4. Perform various procedures such as collection of specimen, recording of intake and output,

     giving and removing bed pans, enemas, etc

5. Perform duties related indirectly to patient care: such as messenger service; cleaning of utensils and equipment; keeping utility rooms, closets, cupboards, and drawers orderly and restocked.

6. Report observations during bath; pressure areas, irritations, abrasions, infections.

7. Assist with such things as oral hygiene and care of hair, etc., when patient is unable to do so.

8. Assist with postmortem care as directed.

9. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

10. Obtain and document patient vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, weight, respiration, pulse, intake and output.

11. Maintain confidentiality of all patient data.

12. Demonstrate sensitivity to patient comfort and privacy.

13. Participate in educational programs and in-service meetings as required.

Requirements

Additional Responsibilities:

As assigned by Supervisory staff.



Education, Qualifications, Experience:

Current CNA certification in state of Kansas.

Sufficient previous clinical experience preferred.

BLS preferred.



Personal Characteristics:

A positive attitude and a positive approach toward nursing care.

Adheres to dress code for nursing staff.



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Has basic knowledge to give patient care effectively.



Expectation of Service: This is a non-exempt 36-40 hour per week position with a rotating schedule that includes weekends and holidays. Regular and punctual attendance is required.  



Physical Requirements: Occasional sitting, frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, lifting/carrying 10-50 pounds with occasional lifting/carrying 51-75 pounds; frequent reaching/grasping, twisting, pulling/pushing, occasional exposure to Sharp instruments, exposure to dust and fumes. Frequent exposure to equipment. Continuously writing in English and working irregular hours.   



Equipment:

To be able to operate equipment safely.
