About The Company
Legal & General is a leading UK financial services group and major global investor. Our three divisions enable us to carefully invest capital over the long term in a responsible way that delivers returns to shareholders while doing good. Along with growing our pension risk transfer business, our strategy focuses on asset management as the cornerstone of our business, including by opening up private markets to more of our clients. Meanwhile, our retail business is focused on building lifelong relationships with customers as they save for retirement and protect themselves and their families. What unites all three parts of our business is summed up in our purpose statement which sets out what we do, why we do it, and our belief in the power of capital. It builds on what’s inspired us since our beginnings in 1836, and challenges us to do more, with greater urgency, in more places, for more people and in more ways, for the long term.
About the Role

Company Description

Legal & General (L&G) is a leading UK financial services group and major global investor.

We’ve been safeguarding people’s financial futures since 1836, and strive to build a better society, while improving the lives of our customers and creating value for shareholders.

We are one of the world’s largest asset managers and provide powerful asset origination capabilities. Together, these underpin our retirement and protection solutions: we are an international player in pension risk transfer, in UK and US life insurance, and in UK workplace pensions and retirement income.

Our Group Functions provide the services that all areas of the business need. This requires a talented and diverse team behind the scenes, who enable everyone at L&G to do what they do best.

Joining us means helping to improve the lives of our customers and contributing to the success of the business every day.

Job Description

L&G is committed to being a trusted voice in financial services and a thought leader on key policy issues. As Public Affairs and Policy Manager, you’ll help shape our engagement with government, parliamentarians and policymaker - particularly in the asset management space. This is a strategic and externally-facing role, ideal for someone with strong political insight and a passion for influencing policy in a meaningful way.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Shaping policy positions: Proactively supporting the development of Legal & General’s policy agenda, aligned with our corporate strategy. This includes building a strong understanding of the business and cultivating effective relationships within asset management and across the Group
  • Supporting the leadership team: Providing timely political analysis and briefings on relevant developments to support the Group CEO, Group Management Committee, and other senior leaders in making informed decisions and communicating our policy positions externally
  • Horizon scanning: Monitoring the political and public policy landscape to identify emerging trends, risks, and opportunities—particularly in relation to asset management. Evaluating their strategic relevance and communicate insights effectively to internal stakeholders. Contributing to the delivery of a robust public policy management framework
  • Group-wide processes: Supporting the delivery of efficient internal processes and timely information sharing across divisions. Work closely with the Head of Public Affairs and Policy and the wider team to ensure strong cross-organisational collaboration and forward planning
  • Advocating the L&G position: Representing Legal & General externally with key stakeholders, including politicians, advisers, civil servants, and trade bodies. Drafting consultation responses, participate in events, and contribute to the company’s external policy engagement
  • Thought leadership: Assisting the Director of Public Affairs and Policy in developing and delivering a research and engagement strategy that supports business priorities and enables the rollout of impactful, group-wide campaigns
  • Consumer Duty: Ensuring the Public Affairs team responds effectively to public body requests and correspondence, maintaining high standards of accountability and alignment with Consumer Duty obligations

Qualifications

Who we’re looking for:

  • Deep understanding of the UK political landscape, with an established and active network across government, parliament, and policy circles.
  • Strong knowledge of the asset management sector, including its regulatory and policy challenges, with some understanding of international policy developments that may impact the industry.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex policy issues clearly and persuasively to a range of audiences.
  • Proven experience working in a complex, issue-rich environment—ideally within or alongside financial services or similarly regulated sectors.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a varied workload, operate independently, and deliver high-quality outputs under pressure.
  • A track record of engaging effectively with government officials, parliamentarians, trade associations, and think tanks.
  • Experience in identifying and managing public policy risks and opportunities, and in advising senior internal stakeholders on political and regulatory developments.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills, with the ability to build trust and credibility across internal and external stakeholders.
  • Confident and effective influencer, capable of representing the organisation’s interests with authority and professionalism.

Whatever your role, we reward performance and behaviour with a package that looks after all the things that are important to you. Here are some of the benefits we offer:
