Position Summary:

The Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Technician assists clinical staff in providing patient care and support services for individuals participating in cardiopulmonary rehabilitation programs. Responsibilities include monitoring and recording vital signs, assisting with patient exercise sessions, preparing and maintaining equipment, and supporting patient education related to safe exercise and cardiovascular health.


The Rehabilitation Technician also assists with departmental operations including scheduling, maintaining statistical records, and ensuring a clean and safe environment. This role participates in cardiopulmonary rehabilitation activities such as group exercise sessions, wellness programming, and SilverSneakers® classes while supporting both traditional and accelerated cardiopulmonary rehabilitation programs.


Essential Functions:

  1. Supports rehabilitation staff in patient care by monitoring vital signs, supervising patients during exercise sessions, and assisting with safe patient transfers when needed.
  2. Assists in the supervision and monitoring of patients participating in traditional and accelerated cardiopulmonary rehabilitation programs to ensure safety and adherence to prescribed exercise plans.
  3. Performs set-up, application, and removal of Holter monitors and assists with proper documentation and processing of monitoring data.
  4. Observes patients during exercise sessions and reports abnormal findings or patient concerns to clinical staff promptly.
  5. Guides patients in the prevention, recognition, and management of exercise-related injuries and symptoms.
  6. Assists staff with patient education related to cardiovascular and pulmonary health, risk factor modification, and safe exercise practices.
  7. Supports the delivery of group exercise sessions, educational classes, and wellness programming, including SilverSneakers® classes as appropriate to patient ability and program guidelines.
  8. Completes follow-up ITP updates every 30 days and distributes them to appropriate providers as required.
  9. Assists staff with patient care interventions within the scope allowed by the Illinois Nurse Practice Act and organizational policies.
  10. Demonstrates proficiency in receiving physician orders and screening patient documentation to ensure all required components are present according to service line and regulatory requirements.
  11. Schedules patient appointments for cardiopulmonary rehabilitation services and follow-up visits as directed.
  12. Performs reminder calls and assists with general office duties including scanning, filing, faxing, and maintaining patient records.
  13. Responds appropriately to emergent situations by following established emergency protocols and notifying appropriate clinical personnel.
  14. Assists with patient transport to and from the department when necessary to support safe patient care.
  15. Demonstrates professional telephone etiquette and responds promptly and courteously to incoming calls and patient inquiries.
  16. Maintains accurate statistical and program participation records as requested by the Department Supervisor.
  17. Assists in maintaining a clean, organized, and safe environment for patients and staff in accordance with infection control and safety guidelines.
  18. Checks for expired supplies and restocks medical and non-medical supplies as needed.
  19. Make up education folders, Holter bags and stock supplies.
  20. Maintains professional behavior and treats patients, families, visitors, and staff with respect, dignity, and courtesy at all times.
  21. Maintains strict confidentiality and protects patient rights in accordance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
  22. Provides assistance and direction to patients, families, and visitors in a supportive and professional manner.
  23. Collaborates with rehabilitation services staff, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to support coordinated patient care.
  24. Participates in departmental education programs, group wellness activities, and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation initiatives designed to improve patient outcomes and promote healthy lifestyles.


The responsibilities listed above are not all-inclusive; other activities may be required in support of the hospital’s goals and objectives.

 


Position Requirements:

  • High School Graduate or equivalent. 
  • 1-2 years experience in a health-related field preferred.
  • BLS required, ACLS preferred
  • CNA preferred, not required 
  • Familiarity with medical office/hospital procedures
  • Ability to multi-task between multiple patients and assisting staff simultaneously
  • Willing to work a flexible schedule to cover departmental needs as needed



Hours: Monday- Friday 7a-11a 4hr per day, subject to vary


Pay Rate:

Pay ranges from $15.00/hour to $20.603/hour (rate of pay is based on applicable years of experience)
