About the Role

We have an exciting internal opportunity for an experienced risk or lending professional to step into the role of Manager Loans Management Business (LMB) within Specialised Business Services.

This role plays a critical part in managing a portfolio of stressed and impaired business lending exposures, while providing credit oversight and guidance to LMB Analysts. It is a great opportunity for someone looking to deepen their exposure to complex credit risk, workout strategies, and stakeholder engagement across the bank.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Loans Management Business, you will be responsible for the proactive management and run-off of stressed loans and impaired assets (typically <$5m TCE, Risk Grade E or below). Your focus will be on achieving the best possible outcomes for both customers and the bank, balancing recovery, timing and customer rehabilitation where feasible.

You will also provide credit sign-off and oversight for allocated LMB Analysts, ensuring work is completed in line with PMCAL authority, Westpac Credit Risk Management Principles, and Specialised Business Services policies.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of stressed and impaired business lending exposures with professionalism and urgency

  • Develop and execute appropriate risk mitigation and recovery strategies

  • Prepare and approve credit and funding submissions within delegated authority

  • Complete interim, quarterly and annual reviews within agreed timeframes

  • Provide credit oversight, guidance and mentoring to allocated LMB Analysts

  • Set and review Risk Grades, Security Quality Indicators and provisioning requirements

  • Engage with customers, external advisors and professional services (e.g. accountants, solicitors, insolvency specialists)

  • Maintain accurate file notes, CIA/BCA records and system data

  • Actively role model Westpac values and protect the bank’s brand and reputation

You’ll bring strong commercial judgement, resilience, and the confidence to manage challenging situations constructively.

Key capabilities and experience include:

  • Proven experience in business lending, credit risk, or loan management

  • Strong financial analysis skills, including interpretation of financial statements, forecasts and cashflows

  • Sound knowledge of lending products, credit processes, and security documentation

  • Ability to make robust credit recommendations within delegated authority

  • Experience supporting, coaching or mentoring others

  • Confidence in having difficult or sensitive conversations with customers and stakeholders

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work autonomously, prioritise effectively and perform under pressure
