Key responsibilities:
The reading together volunteer will actively engage with identified vulnerable primary school children from the local community to help improve their literacy skills through reading sessions.
The role will develop positive and constructive relationships to encourage improvement of the childrens’ reading, comprehension, vocabulary and oral language skills.
Qualifications and skills (desired/required):
A love of reading, and a desire to share this with the children you read alongside.

As this role is a child-related role, it requires a current Working with Children Check/Working with Vulnerable People Check
Time Required & Commitment:
As agreed with program coordinator and school contact person. This volunteer role is for a minimum of 1 – 1½ hours a week during school hours, supporting 3-4 children in a session.
Training Requirements:
One of the many ways we care for people is by ensuring our workers are well equipped with the necessary knowledge to complete their role safely.
To successfully undertake this role, the following training is required:
· Category C training: Foundational training which includes an introduction to The Salvation Army, code of conduct training, work-safe and child-safe practices. As the role involves working alongside children, volunteers will also need to complete Advanced Safeguarding training.
