About the Role

The Clinical Assistant is a member of the interdisciplinary medical team of the health center. The Clinical Assistant screens and refers phone calls, communicates and interacts with patients, provides clerical and staff support to the unit and is a liaison between the front desk staff and with the nurses in the provision of care.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School graduate
  • On-the-job training, previous experience preferred
  • Personal maturity, cooperation, ability to communicate clearly


SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS:

  • Obtains routine temperature, pulse, respiration, height and weight as well as blood pressure readings at first encounter. Screens clients for visual acuity using Snellen method.
  • Performs adequate documentation for the provider.
  • Assists with laboratory procedures
  • Assists with office procedures.
  • Responsible for assisting with Registered Nurse/Staff Nurse with triage of clients and transfer of charts to appropriate provider.
  • Responsible for assisting with maintenance of medical and laboratory equipment and for assisting with quality controls on laboratory equipment.
  • Responsible for routine laboratory procedures including but not limited to: various dipsticks, urinalysis, hemoglobin A1c, glucose screening, gram stains, and procedures as approved by GSPHC policies and CLIA standards.
  • Responsible for performing visit prep for all patients, participating in care team huddles, and checking out patients and scheduling follow up visits.
  • Assists providers during clinical visits by giving them 30 sec reports in between patients, performing the sheep/sheppard method, and midway knocks.
  • Maintains provider’s schedule by participating in a simplified schedule and jockeying/scrubbing patient visits.
  • Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein, or as assigned by the Clinical Lead and Practice Administrator.
  • Maintains a current CPR license, participates in educational training offered at GSPHC; including online LMS platforms.
