About the Role

Job Title: Senior Test Analyst

This role is a full-time opportunity to join the Local Peoples team on a 12-month contract (with potential 12-month extension), supporting the Department of Finance’s Parliamentary Document Management System (PDMS). PDMS is a key system supporting the workflow of parliamentary and departmental documents across 70 federal government entities and over 40,000 users. Beyond this project, you would contribute to ensuring reliable, high-quality enterprise systems that support government services and outcomes.

About the Project

You will join the Government Services Branch (GSB) to deliver high-quality testing and quality assurance across complex systems and business processes within an Agile delivery environment. You will mentor junior testers, promote consistent quality standards, and work collaboratively with developers, business analysts, and stakeholders to deliver fit-for-purpose services. This is a hybrid role based in Canberra, with some ad hoc out-of-hours support required, including weekends or weekday mornings/evenings.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end testing activities including system, integration, user acceptance, regression, and non-functional testing.

  • Develop and maintain test plans, scripts, and artefacts aligned with sprint and release goals.

  • Provide specialist advice on Agile testing approaches, tools, and defect management.

  • Identify, analyse, and manage defects, risks, and quality issues, ensuring timely resolution.

  • Mentor junior testers and promote shared ownership of quality across Agile teams.

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to clarify requirements, validate acceptance criteria, and support user acceptance testing.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of Agile testing practices and frameworks.

  • Ensure testing activities comply with organisational policies, including security, accessibility, and data integrity.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience in testing complex IT systems.

  • Proven experience with large-scale enterprise systems.

  • Experience using Azure DevOps for test management, defect tracking, and collaboration.

  • Knowledge of WCAG standards and experience conducting web accessibility testing.

  • Experience testing using assistive technologies, including screen readers.

  • Experience creating, reviewing, and executing test cases and scripts, including backend and integration testing.

  • Knowledge or experience in test automation is highly desirable.

Essential Criteria

  • Demonstrated experience testing large-scale, complex IT systems.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated capacity to mentor or lead junior testers.

  • Ability to deliver testing outcomes within Agile environments.
