Job Description
Become a Basketball Coach for the Spring 2026 season at the Beaverton YMCA for our semi-competitive high school boys league. This is a seasonal position that often leads to permanent part-time/full-time employment.
Season timeline: April 13 - June 13, 2026

Age range: Coaching 5th-8th Graders
--
Practices: April 13 - June 10
All teams will practice for 60 minutes on Mondays and Wednesdays at either 5pm, 6pm, or 7pm at The Beaverton YMCA.

Games: Held on Saturdays at The Beaverton YMCA starting April 25 - June 13.
- Each team will play one game per date within the listed timeframes.
- Games will take place between 9am - 2pm.
- Must be available on Saturdays between 9-2pm.
- Game times vary each week.
- You would coach one team with an average of 10 players per team.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement basketball training programs for students of various ages and skill levels
- Teach fundamental basketball skills, including dribbling, shooting, passing, and defense
- Plan and conduct practice sessions to improve players' individual skills and team dynamics
- Provide guidance and support to players during games and competitions
- Evaluate players' performance and provide constructive feedback for improvement
- Create a positive and inclusive team environment that promotes sportsmanship and teamwork
- Ensure the safety of all players during practices and games
Experience
- Previous experience coaching basketball or working with students in a sports setting is preferred
- Knowledge of basketball rules, strategies, and techniques
- Strong communication skills to effectively instruct and motivate players
- Ability to manage behavior and maintain discipline among players
- Experience in other sports or physical education activities (e.g., Judo, Martial arts, Cheerleading, Karate) is a plus
- CPR and First Aid certification is desirable
