We are looking for a Maintenance Technician for our Chicago Steel plant. The Maintenance Technician will service all company equipment and machines, shears, burners, saws, forklifts and side loaders, office equipment and minor electrical. This position will report to the Maintenance Manager.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Make repairs to buildings, perform basic carpentry and painting operations, build partitions, benches, repair furniture, etc.
- Tear down machines, equipment or check piping, valves, or electrical equipment todetermineextent of trouble and make minor repairs, obtain approval on major troubles, and make repairs following approval.
- Perform machine operations to make minor replacement parts, replace worn or brokenpartsand reassemble, fitting parts, scraping, and reaming bearings and adjustingmachineto provide proper operation.
- Maintain and install electrical lines and equipment in connection with plant rearrangement or new equipment.
- Make repairs or replacements in air, steam, oil or gas lines and controls.
- Carry on preventive maintenance prescribed schedule.
- Perform basic fork truck tune-ups and repairs.
Position Requirements
- Strong ability to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, and piping charts.
- Good mathematical and computer skills
- Knowledge of company polices and safety rules.
- Knowledge of labor cards, routing and move tickets.
- Basic arc (SMAW) welding skills.
- Understanding of press operation.
- Strong verbal and written communication
- Will have to travel when needed
- Welding certificate required
- Competence in pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical energy, 3 phase motors and controllers, familiarity with basic hand tools
- A sense of urgency when responding to call and repairs
- Familiar with cranes trouble shooting
- HVAC and refrigerant systems skills.
- Certified forklift operator
- Comply with company policies, procedures, shop and safety rules
