About the Role

Description

This is an excellent opportunity for a senior leadership role in our vibrant summer school.  Your expertise will benefit our teachers as you guide and support them with their teaching journey. It’s a real team spirit and a truly valuable experience for all involved.


We’re an English Language school hosted by our state-of-the-art CATS Academy Boston high school located in Braintree, MA. Our Study Holidays welcome groups of young students from overseas, usually for periods of 7-14 days at a time. During their stay, they’re immersed in learning with a fun and dynamic academic and activity program.  Employment dates for this position run from mid-June to early August 2026.


As the Director of Studies, you'll be:

  • Managing the academic program and the teaching team to ensure that students and teachers alike gain the most from their time in the program
  • Responsible for teaching resources and high-quality delivery of lessons
  • Ensuring academic lessons and activities are integrated to promote the best learning experience for our students - this includes organizing schedules for teachers who are involved in the activities program
  • Holding weekly staff meetings and conducting weekly staff development seminars
  • Observing, appraising, and giving feedback on teaching performance in a supportive, effective manner - we’re proud to champion staff development here at Stafford House
  • Participating in pastoral duties with our students and managing their general wellbeing
  • Some overnight residential duties form part of this role
  • Actively support fellow management colleagues, i.e., Center Director, Activities Manager, Excursions Manager and Residential Life Manager, to ensure the effective running of the center
  • Filling in for teachers to cover absences, as needed
  • Answering student emergency phones during off-hours if necessary - this duty is rotated amongst the management team
  • Working 6 days per week - as part of the management team, this is a fully immersive position

Here is some of what you’ll need to join us over the summer as Director of Studies:

  • Proven successful experience in teaching, with over 3 years of full-time EFL experience
  • You must have a TESOL certification or equivalent
  • Educated to degree level
  • Excellent communicator
  • Experience in working with and supervising young people
  • Attention to detail 
  • Team player attitude with fantastic customer service skills
  • We are unable to offer sponsorship; therefore, you must be legally able to work in the United States
