Job Description Summary/objective: The Driver is responsible for safely and efficiently transporting vacuum trucks and related equipment to client locations, as well as performing various shop duties when not on the road.
Driving Responsibilities:
Driving is a fundamental requirement of all shop roles at Vac2Go. Employees must safely and efficiently operate vehicles, including vacuum trucks, and adhere to all federal and state driving regulations to support daily operations and customer needs.
Essential functions:
- Transport vacuum trucks and related equipment to client locations safely and on time.
- Plan driving routes to determine the most efficient path.
- Operate vacuum trucks safely.
- Accurately communicate and document equipment drop-offs and pick-ups.
- Report necessary maintenance or repairs to Fleet Maintenance Technicians promptly.
- Assist with shop duties such as cleaning, managing parts, and other tasks when not driving.
- Review Plan of the Day board and monitor for updates throughout the day.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections on vehicles as required by DOT.
- Maintain cleanliness of all vehicles and equipment.
- Follow directions of Technicians to complete daily responsibilities.
- Monitor the shop for safety concerns and address issues immediately.
- Maintain accurate and updated documentation in the Fleet Management system for DOT requirements and submit to the Ops Manager daily.
- Submit all expenses to the Accounting Department at the end of the delivery.
- Ensure DOT physical card is carried at all times.
- Maintain active personal auto insurance at all times.
- Document and report all safety incidents to the Ops Manager immediately.
- Maintain an active CDL license at all times.
- Demonstrate proficiency with automatic and manual transmissions, GPS/navigation devices, and Fleetio Fleet Management System.
- Knowledgeable in federal and state-specific DOT requirements and the use of vacuum equipment.
- Identify the most efficient way to complete the daily route and anticipate challenges or resource needs.
- Educate customers about the equipment in a clear and professional manner.
- Address daily customer questions/concerns via phone, email, and in-person interactions promptly and professionally.
- Demonstrate functionality of vacuum equipment to customers.
- Report any concerns at delivery to the Ops Manager immediately before leaving the delivery location.
- Deliver basic training to customers about each vacuum truck and equipment type as needed.

Physical demands:
- Frequent communication with others; ability to remain stationary for prolonged periods.
- Walking, handling, and reaching with hands and arms.
- Ability to lift to 50 lbs. frequently.
- Climbing in and out of trucks, as well as climbing up onto trucks for cleaning and/or maintenance purposes.
Travel required:
- Travel required up to 5 days a week.
- Regional travel is required with overnight stay.
- Additional travel may be required for training or attending industry events.
Required education, experience and Driving Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- CDL with tanker endorsement required.
- A minimum of 2 years of driving experience in accordance with CDL requirements is required.
- 1-3 years of experience with both automatic and manual equipment.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and a current DOT certification (CDL).
- Able to provide 10 years of employment history.
- Ability to remain calm in stressful driving situations.
- Familiarity with GPS devices is preferred.
- Good communication skills, both written and oral.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in multiple forms.
Work authorization/security clearance requirements:
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
Manual Lifting Requirements Standard
Manual material handling and movement is a component of almost every single job in our shop. Typically, it involves lifting, lowering, pushing, pulling, gripping, pinching, carrying, and holding objects to some degree, whether by hand or with some form of mechanical lift or assistance. Each of these handling activities exposes the employee and the shop to the potential of personal injury or property damage. To reduce overall injuries, we are aiming our efforts at reducing material handling hazards to our employees.
Vac2Go Ergonomic Guidelines
- The maximum weight to be lifted by one employee with two hands is 50 pounds.
- Two people working together in tandem can lift 50–100 lbs.
- For anything over 100lbs, mechanical means must be used at all times.
- Work within your power zone. Keep weight centered on your torso and as close to your body as practical.
- Avoid twisting and turning while lifting.
- Push versus pull as often as possible.
- Always ensure you know the weight of an object before attempting to lift or carry it.
Types of mechanical means available to assist:
- Forklifts
- Use the appropriately rated forklift.
- Dollies/Pallet movers/Carts
- Do not overload the device.
